JAMES ERNEST GORDON HOEY
The family of Ernie Hoey sadly announces his passing on February 1, 2023 at Bluewater Health, Sarnia, Ontario.
Ernie was born in Brandon, Manitoba to James and Edith (Swalwell) Hoey on August 15, 1932. He and his sister, Louise, were raised on the family farm near Brandon, Manitoba.
As a young man, Ernie moved to Sarnia, Ontario where he worked in the construction business for many years. When he sold the construction business, he returned to farming in retirement. In recent years, the farms were sold in order to enjoy some leisure and fishing.
Ernie married Lorraine McArthur in 1964. He, Laurie and stepson Dwane Curry lived in Sarnia for several years before moving to an acreage near Camlachie, Ontario. In retirement, Ernie and Laurie enjoyed winters in Florida, summers at the cottage near Tobermory and gardening time at home. On May 12, 2019, Laurie, the love of his life, passed away.
Ernie is survived by his stepson Dwane, sister Louise George and her children, Jeffrey (Caroline), Lory (Kendall), Pamela (Cameron) and Jacquelyn and their families, Laurieâs sister Audie Ritz and nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Maddison and hospital staff and especially to Judy Payne, healthcare assistant, neighbour and friend. Spring interment will be held at Dunkâs Bay Cemetery in Tobermory, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted to the D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre Ltd.
