IRENE (JANSEN) DYCK
April 13, 1932 - February 21, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Irene Dyck, beloved wife, mother, Oma and Grosse Oma.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Henry, her three sons, Walter (Hildy), Robert (Vera Shymchyk) and Erick (Tammy Rak), her grandchildren, Ryan (Sylvia), Chris (Sheena), Danielle Matsyk (Mike), Carson, Lindsay, Brayden, and Sasha, Tammy's daughters, Brooke and Lauren, her great-grandchildren, Vayda, Stella, Zak, Ari, Henry, and Ruby.
Irene is survived by her siblings, Elsie, John, Helen, Melita and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Margarete Jansen, siblings, Frieda, Peter, Henry and Margaret as well as brothers-in-law, Jake, Hans, Jack and sister-in-law, Margaret.
Irene was born in Einlage, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1948, where she met the love of her life, Henry, at the age of 17. They married eleven months later and created an incredible life together that lasted over 72 years.
Irene and Henry endured great hardship in the beginning years of their marriage. Irene was unwavering in her support of Henry's aspirations of becoming a farmer and all his other business ventures. She was an extremely hard worker, working in factories during the week, as well as cleaning houses on weekends to help make ends meet.
They eventually settled in East, then North Kildonan where they raised their family. Irene was a devoted mother to her boys and was always there for them. She kept an immaculate home and was an excellent cook and baker. The freezer was never without something delicious for whenever her sons' friends or unexpected company would arrive.
Irene loved travelling. She and Henry embarked on many adventures that took them to Florida, Banff, Las Vegas, and California as well as Europe and Mexico. They later spent longer periods of time in Hawaii before becoming snowbirds and spending their winters in Palm Springs where they made many happy memories. Irene's last trip to Hawaii was extra special because all 26 of her family members joined her for a two week Christmas vacation. While Irene enjoyed the many friendships she made throughout her life, she was happiest when her whole family gathered together for special occasions.
A strong faith in God brought Irene to the First Mennonite Church where she and Henry were long-standing members of the congregation. It brought her great joy to attend services there over the years.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home for their care and compassion for nearly three years.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
