MARIO DA SILVA CAETANO
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Mario passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure.
Left to cherish Mario's memory are his four children, Arminda (Manuel), Isabel (Germano), José (Rosinda), Sandra (Yoslai); nine grandchildren, Sonya (Paulo), Nelson (Eliana), Stefanie (David), Rui (Dalila), Daniel (Marcia), Mathew (Chantel), Isabella, Thalia and Adrianna; and nine great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Maria, Ashley, Chloe, Mackenzie, Mario, Salvador, Gonçalo and Mateo. He also leaves behind two of his brothers, Carlos and Antonio, and many nieces and nephews. Mario was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria, his brother Manuel; his parents, Francisco and Arminda; and his mother and father in-law.
Mario was born November 1, 1934 in Figueiró do Vinhos, Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1966, settling in Winnipeg, where he worked very hard and was able to bring his family to Canada in 1975.
Mario was an avid hunter and fisherman and just loved to be out in nature. He had an incredible connection to animals and loved to be surrounded by them. He found great pleasure in gardening and being one with nature. Mario's love and devotion to his family was endless. Watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play around him brought him so much joy. He will always be remembered for his sense of humour and wonderful stories. We are comforted to know that he has received God's eternal gift and for that we are so thankful.
Viewing and Prayers will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin St., on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Monsignor Maurice Comeault, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB.
