ISABELLE LACOSTE
(nee AUDETTE)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Isabelle Lacoste, on Monday, February 27, 2023.
Mom will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, Gerald (Chris), Bryan (Lisa), Richard, Donna (Peter) and Debbie (Jim); her grandchildren, Samantha, Stephanie, Eyob, Ryan (Ksenia), Chantal (Mike), Alexa, Sergio (Lisa), Marcel (Courtney) and Ashley (Connor); her great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Wilder; her sisters, Emma (Tony), Beatrice, Lucy, Lorraine and Angel and her brother Alphonse (Lucille); her many nieces and nephews and her longtime good friend Hugh Joyce.
She was predeceased by her parents, Aurore and Lazare Audette, her brothers, Gerard, Arthur and Theodore, her sisters-in-law, Ollie and Louise and brothers-in-law, Johnny, Leonard, Evald and Camille.
Mom was born and raised just outside of Ste. Anne, Manitoba with a large, loving family of 10 siblings on the farm. She moved to the big city and started her career at the Royal Bank, and loved dressing as a career girl. She soon married and left banking to start a family. When she moved to the town of La Broquerie, she was best known for running a liquor store "Chez Rene" while juggling both a hair salon and insurance brokerage. She was the best multi-tasker. Mom could maintain a bustling family of young kids, a large garden, cooking amazing meals and still host the best Christmas family gatherings. Mom later moved to Winnipeg when we were grown up and embraced her love of sewing by working at Diane's Wedding Gowns while obtaining her Fashion Design Degree at U of M. Mom loved fashion and was always well dressed. She took on a part time job at Susie Cream Cheese in Polo Park where she was able to satisfy her love of fashion and meet many "chic" clients and co-workers. Mom later finished her career back where she started in banking, working 10 years at the Cambrian Credit Union on St. Mary's Road. Our mom was the most organized, dependable, and efficient employee who has acquired lifelong friends throughout her working career.
Mom always loved flowers and was known to carry her scissors in her purse to grab the neighbourhood lilacs when they were in season. She always had a pot of soup on the stove, a roast in the oven or homemade cookies to share. She will be so sadly missed by her entire family, her many friends, her fun-loving neighbours and her past co-workers.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped to bring her comfort when she needed it most. From the many visits, the telephone calls, the plates of food, the many flowers and the encouragement with unwavering love.

Mom, you are already so greatly missed. Rest in peace.

A Celebration of Life in her honour will be held at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald St., Winnipeg, MB on Saturday April 8 at 1:00 p.m.

  • I have fond memories of Isabelle when she used to travel with us. She would always make sure to bring us cookies. Very sweet lady and she always had a smile on her face. My deepest condolences to the entire family - Posted by: Maria costantino (Friend) on: Mar 26, 2023

  • My deepest condolences to Isabelle’s family. I worked for many years with Isabelle at Cambrian in the early 90’s. She was one of many mother figures I had working there. I would often drive her home from work in our 2 seater Toyota 4X4 truck! Watching her get in was interesting, but she always did it! She also was my personal wedding specialist, when it came to altering my wedding dress and making my veil for my wedding. She was one special lady with so many interesting stories of her life. She will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Shelley Weidmann (Past co-worker) on: Mar 06, 2023

  • Auntie Isabelle was always one of my favourite aunts. I remember those long ago Christmas family gatherings in La Broquerie with fondness. Our heartfelt condolences to all the family. Irene and Tim Williams - Posted by: Irene Williams (Niece) on: Mar 05, 2023

  • My sincere condolences to the whole family!! I was shocked to read the obit just yesterday arriving back from holidays. Not that long ago I saw her at Cambrian CU while she was running errands. Was able to give her a BIG hug and catch up a bit. We had made plans to have lunch the following week but she had to call to postpone and said she would call when it might work again. I sensed there might be other issues at play. I’m so sorry we didn’t get that chance to have that last visit. Isabel was like a mother figure to me when I worked along side her at Cambrian. She trained me way back in 1995. I was in a difficult place in life at that time and it was such a comfort to me to have someone that knew me from my youth, growing up and going to school along side her sons. Our working relationship went outside Cambrian as she took me many times to go shopping for discount Nygard clothes with her daughter and we had numerous lunch catchup dates since. Her laugh, smile and humour were contagious and brightened every room she walked into. A beautiful and gracious woman inside and out. My heart goes out to the family as she will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Marlyce Fast (Friend and co-worker) on: Mar 05, 2023
