Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • First I was fortunate enough to have Cy as my high school math teacher. He made a love of mathematics easy and fun. It was largely his inspiration that led me back to Glenlawn to teach math, where I was lucky to run into him again, this time as a colleague, mentor and friend. He had a profound positive impact on my life and I will never forget him. My deepest condolences. - Posted by: Ken Thoroski (Former student, colleague, mentee and friend) on: Mar 18, 2023

  • I am so sorry to learn of the death of Cy. We were classmates at law school - he was kind and funny and just nice to be around. I was so impressed that he decided to go to law school after retiring from teaching - although, of course, he did not think it was an impressive thing to do, he just did it! I was inspired by his example though, and decided that my age would not prevent me from pursuing my dream of obtaining an LLM, which I did at 49. Thanks Cy! My thoughts and prayers are with Cy's family. - Posted by: Pam Clarke (classmate) on: Mar 18, 2023

  • I would not have graduated except for Mr. Yung. He was always firm but patient. When I struggled in his class he not only assisted me but also set me up with a tutor. He was a favorite teacher of whom I have many fond memories. - Posted by: Pat Lowe (nee Armstrong) (Former student at Glenlawn Collegiate) on: Mar 10, 2023

  • One of my favourite teachers (& I’ve had many). Pivotal person in my education and I am so grateful to have had the good fortune to be one his students. - Posted by: Frank Stockl (Student) on: Mar 09, 2023

  • Deepest of condolences to Sonia and the entire family as you share this loss together. Parents are a critical part of our lives and the loss of both in a short time is a difficult journey. Wishing comfort in recalling some good times to help you through this time. - Posted by: David Palumbo (Friend) on: Mar 09, 2023

  • Mr Yung was my grade 10 homeroom and math teacher in 1959-60. He was well respected as a personable and fair teacher. I remember our class trip by train to Grand Beach at the end of the year. It was a first time experience for Mr Yung and we all had a fun time. My condolences to his daughter and family. - Posted by: Marlene A Mortimer (Former student) on: Mar 08, 2023

  • He was the best! - Posted by: Susan Chapman (Former student) on: Mar 08, 2023

  • I was one of Mr. Yung's student during his earliest years at Glenlawn. He was a quiet humorist who always made his classes entertaining. Not to say he couldn't be a disciplinarian as well. He always found the middle ground with somewhat subtle technique. I'm sure I am among many who remember him fondly. - Posted by: Bob Beavis (Former student) on: Mar 08, 2023
