KEVIN GORDON CROUCH

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Crouch on March 7, 2023, at the age of 68. Kevin passed away peacefully and with his family at his side, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Kevin will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by Lynn, his wife of 48 years; daughter Melanie (Steven) and son Steven (Lindsay); grandsons, Samuel and David; sisters, Gail (David) and Brenda (Patrick); brothers, Blaine and Grant (Aprille); and many other family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Cleone and David.
Kevin was born in Winnipeg on May 8, 1954 and grew up in North Kildonan. A chance encounter at the age of 14 brought him together with Lynn. Kevin said that from the moment he saw her, he knew he was going to marry her, and five years later he did just that.
Kevin retired in 2016 after spending his entire career at the Winnipeg Free Press. Outside of work, he was very involved and deeply respected in the Manitoba baseball community. He received numerous awards for his hard work, dedication and commitment to mentoring young umpires. In 2022, the Kevin Crouch Junior Umpire of the Year Award was established in his honour.
Above all, Kevin loved his family. Despite his deteriorating health, he remained determined to live life to the fullest and make new and special memories. Even into his final hours, he was touched by the presence of his grandchildren and children and of course, the love of his life, Lynn. Kevin truly died as he lived - with tenacity, dignity, and surrounded by the love of his family.
Kevin's family extends their appreciation to the team at CancerCare Manitoba (Winnipeg and Pinawa locations) and the Beausejour Health Centre for their kind and compassionate care throughout Kevin's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre.
A celebration in honour of Kevin's life will take place at a later date.
Condolences for the family may be left at www.alternacremation.ca.

  • So very sorry for your loss. My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Bev Polnau (realtor) on: May 21, 2023

  • I am sorry to read of Kevin's passing. We were friends from baseball. I coached 18U W.S. Chiefs AAA. Kevin was the umpire. He threw me out of a ball game when I went out to discuss a call. In our heated discussion I accidently touched his forehead with the peak of my cap as I was probably standing too close to Kevin. He threw me out the game for touching him and also apologized for having to throw me out. Such a great guy!!! I was an umpire before becoming a coach. I extend my condolences and you have my sympathies. See you on the other side Kev. In respect, Paul - Posted by: Paul L Lagimodiere (friend) on: Mar 15, 2023

  • Kevin was the friendliest, nicest guy and we had many great chats over the years. I remember attending Kevin and Lynn's wedding...was it really 48 years ago? I remember the speeches and Kevin thanked Lynn's parents for raising one "hell of a nice lady"... Hard working, dedicated to his family, Kevin was blessed with happiness and love. RIP cousin. See you on the other side. XO - Posted by: Dawn Fraser (Cousin) on: Mar 13, 2023

  • My condolences to Kev’s family. He was a super guy full of energy. He was fun to work with. Back er in on one Kevin! - Posted by: Neil Flood (Friend and co-worker. ) on: Mar 12, 2023

  • "58 to dispatch", "Go ahead 58", "Yeaaaah Brenda could you tell John Wager I'll be a little late getting back. There's a lady on Hoddinott Road got her car stuck in her driveway, I'm gonna give her a hand getting it out." Only one of the many memories I have of Kevin. So sorry to hear of his passing. Deepest condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Chuck Oram (co-worker,friend) on: Mar 11, 2023

  • I first met KEVIN when we lived on the same street (BROAD BAY) in North Kildonan in the early 1960s. We were several years apart but routinely hung out together and KEVIN often helped me with my Winnipeg Free Press paper route on Ian Place and Bardal Bay. He was a great helper and all around good friend. Although we lost touch decades ago it is somewhat ironic that he went on to spend his career with the same newspaper that he so readily enjoyed delivering with me. RIP KEVIN. - Posted by: Garry Leach (Friend/neighbour) on: Mar 11, 2023

  • Sorry for your loss. I worked with him at the press. He made me a good man. - Posted by: Eugene (friend) on: Mar 11, 2023
