ENID BUTLER
May 12, 1941 – March 9, 2023


It is with great sadness that we need to share that our mother, grandmother, gg, sister, aunt and friend, Enid Butler passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023.
Enid was born on May 12, 1941 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to parents, Nellie and Jack Clayton. Growing up, Enid along with her younger brothers, spent summers at Pike Lake where they would meet many lifelong friends. Enid attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After graduation, Enid worked for the Province of Saskatchewan where she met her future husband, Con Butler.
Enid and Con married in Saskatoon in April 1965, moving to Winnipeg in 1966 where Con began working for the Province of Manitoba. Enid's professional career was diverse; starting up a nursery school in Southdale, moving on to work with volunteers at Misericordia Hospital and Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, and eventually starting her own consulting business supporting community organizations.
Enid was a perfect example of volunteerism and giving back to community, volunteering with many organizations that took her all over the world and from which she formed lifelong friendships. She was actively involved with the Girl Guides of Canada at the local, national and international level. She was a founding member of Grands 'N More, part of the Stephen Lewis Foundation supporting grandmothers in Africa whose families were devastated by HIV/AIDS. A member of various non-profit board of directors, Enid also volunteered with Augustine United Church where she was a member, as well as the Oak Table.
Throughout their married life, Enid and Con loved to travel overseas with friends and family and spend time at the cottages in Pike Lake, Sandy Hook and Gimli. They fully embraced being grandparents and loved the special time they spent with each of the grandkids creating wonderful memories.
Enid would always credit Con and his support in making these many opportunities, both professional and volunteer, possible for her. They had a loving and strong partnership for over 50 years that we are forever thankful for.
Enid will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan (Andy) and Jennifer (Michael); grandchildren, Annabelle (Braiden), Aidan and Cian; great-granddaughter Adelyn; her brother Laurie (Cadi); sister-in-law Bea (Len); nieces and nephews and her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Con; her brother Alan and sisters-in law, Louise and Marg.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Osagie and Colleen, Elizabeth and their team for their care and support of Enid. We also want to acknowledge Mom's many friends for their love and support. Enid's legacy is her strength of will, her ability to overcome obstacles, her love of life and family and that no matter what, you keep trying.
Enid expressed before she passed that she did not want a service; instead, her ashes will be interred at the Windsor Park United Church Memorial Garden.

  • Today I learned of Enid's passing. I was a member of Grands'n'More and Enid was such an inspiration. At our meetings, Con was always there with her to set up the tables and support in any way he could. Both Enid and Con were very kind people always helping others.   • Enid and I became friends when we met through many activities in Girl Guides. She was wonderful to work with on any project. She was a Trainer, so I learned much from her sessions. Mostly she was a great role model and showed me that, a smile and being sincere are keys to caring. We also enjoyed several Grands and More outings and sessions from potluck suppers, meeting Grands from Africa, and seeing Steven Lewis speak in person.   • I first met Enid at a Grand'sNMore meeting where we worked on various committees together. She had the most beautiful, welcoming smile and a lovely personality.
