JARMILA MARIA PALICKA
January 30, 1947 - March 14, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce Jarmila Maria Palicka passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2023 due to an unrelenting covid infection. She was surrounded by love at the time of her passing.
Left to cherish Jarmila's memory is her beloved husband Karol (56 years of marriage); daughters, Jarmila Ratz (Brian) and Alexandra Miller (Sean); grandchildren, Kenzie and Gavin Miller; her brother Milan Galovic (Marie) and their families in the USA; in Slovakia, brother-in-law Vrato Palicka (Maruska) and their families; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Jarka was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia in 1947 and came to Canada as a young bride with a six- month old in 1968. She built a wonderful life with her husband Karol, daughters Jackie and Alex. Her greatest love was her grandchildren. Mom had a love of gardening and animals, caring for others, and cooking for us all. Her traditional Christmas baking skills were admired by everyone.
An in-person/virtual Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either CancerCare Manitoba or HeartLife Foundation of Canada in her name.

I’m so sorry to hear that Jarka (Jackie as I knew her) has passed. I have been thinking about her often for several weeks, worried actually. Jackie and Karol were my customers for many years at London Drugs often putting in orders of Clausthaler beer and I always looked after them. They were both very sweet people, good people! Jackie always stopped to say hello and talk. Always a bright light in my day, The Christmas baking!! Well it was the best and was very thoughtful of her to bring this to the store for me. My deepest condolences to Karol, Jackie and Brian, Alex, Sean, Kenzie and Gavin! Jarka was a longtime friend and a part of our immigrant family. She was kind and always ready to lend a hand. My late husband Janko and I met Jarka and Karol 54 years ago and our lives intertwined many times. We saw our kids grow up and welcomed our grandchildren as our journeys continued. There were many laughs, conversations and memories shared during our visits, dances, at the club, and good food and drinks were shared with love. Memories will last for ever! Jackie and Alexandra, your mother loved you unconditionally as you already know. Now she will watch over you and remain in your hearts forever! Myself and Yvette will never forget her!
