1956-2023

Paul John Shore (1956-2023) of Brandon died suddenly February 27, 2023. He is much missed by Lynn Whidden and her family: daughter Rachel; son Richard and daughter-in-law Jennifer; grandchildren Emmett, Charlotte and Matthew; good friend Matthew Herrell and of course “Kitty”.

Paul’s superb work rested on dedicated study at Lewis and Clark College in his home city, Portland, Oregon and later at Yale and Stanford universities. He was a professor for 22 years, most of that at Saint Louis University, Missouri. Following his resignation! from a tenured position, he was a scholar of religious history, focusing on the Jesuits. His great joy was combing archives for treasures and sharing them with others; his twelfth book is now in press. In 2022 he gave numerous talks in various countries such as Georgia, Czech Republic, Lebanon, Italy, France and Poland. He also found time to mentor several students as they made their way in academia.

Besides being a “lecturer about town”, and a member of the Prairie Mountain Health Ethics Committee, Paul was a priest in St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. Great thanks are given for the memorable service conducted by Bishop of Brandon William Cliff, assisted by Dean Don Bernhardt, Deacon Leon Morehouse and many others. Special recognition to church organist David Naylor and Brockie Donovan Services for the capable arrangements at every stage.
