PATRICK LAWRENCE RYAN
November 23, 1954 - March 8, 2023
Pat passed away peacefully at 10:10 p.m. in Revelstoke, BC, with his sister Denise at his side.
Pat was born in Swift Current, SK and raised in the West End of Winnipeg. Growing up he enjoyed sports and played baseball and hockey. Once in high school, football became Pat's passion. He was not large in stature, but played like it, with passion, grit and a huge heart. Pat was a proud member of both the 1973 and 1974 Gordon Bell Panthers High School Football Championship Teams and was looking forward to attending the 50th year reunion for the 1973 Team this coming fall.
Upon graduation, Pat worked for a period for Inco Mines, in Thompson, MB. He later headed west and made British Columbia his home, where he loved the beautiful mountains and waterways. He travelled the province extensively and enjoyed sleeping under the stars.
Pat had a strong sense of fairness and social justice. He always stood up for those most in need and would assist others wherever and whenever he could. Pat was a true friend.
Pat worked for BC Rail and was a vocal opponent of any rail practices which harmed the environment. He retired from BC Rail on a disability pension at a relatively young age. Throughout his working life Pat was exposed to many chemicals. Just over a decade ago, he was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), a liver disease which he managed for many years until last summer, when his health started to decline.
Pat was predeceased by his loving mother, Leyta Ryan and his brother-in-law, Ed Swart. He will forever be remembered by his sister, Denise Swart, nephew, Matthew, niece, Hollie (Allan), his extended family and many friends.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be held in September in Winnipeg, with details to be published at a later date.
Rest in Peace Pat and enjoy your new view of the heavenly stars.
