MYRNA MARINA HATTIE
It is with extreme sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Myrna Marina Hattie announce her passing at the Brandon Regional Heath Centre on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Myrna was the fourth of five girls born to Wesley and Maude Beamish of Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. She had an extremely happy childhood and in her own words, Myrna said the things that made her happy were dancing, dancing, dancing, music, reading, movies, and days at the rink.
After obtaining her elementary and secondary education in Gainsborough, she came to Brandon to study at the Brandon Business College and upon completing her studies, she was employed by Brandon Body Works.
Myrna attended Knox United Church in Brandon and it was there that she met her future husband Allen Hattie of Flin Flon, Manitoba who at that time was attending Brandon College. With her outgoing personality Myrna attended college social events and made numerous lasting friends.
Myrna married Allen in the new Knox United Church after he graduated from college, and they were happily married for over 66 years. The first year of married life was spent in Portage La Prairie and then they moved back to Brandon. Myrna worked at Welder’s Supply until the birth of their daughter Alana. Two years later their second child Ian was born.
Myrna was always active in Knox United Church. She taught Sunday school, belonged to various women’s groups, was a C.G.I.T. leader and participated in fundraising activities. She also belonged to Short Circuits and Hydro-X through Allen’s work at Manitoba Hydro and had many dear friends through these associations.
Above all else, Myrna loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She supported her children in their endeavors and was involved in their schooling and activities. She loved holidays and celebrations and never missed remembering family, extended family and friends on their birthdays and special occasions.
Myrna was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and faced this challenge with courage and dignity. Allen was her steadfast caregiver and his love and support enabled her to remain in her home for which she was truly grateful.
Myrna was predeceased by her parents Wesley and Maude Beamish, infant sister Verna, sister Myrtle and brother in-laws David and Eugene, sister Marilyn and brother in-law Jack, sister Moneta and brother in-law Stanley. She is survived by her husband Allen, daughter Alana (Patrick), son Ian (Jan) and grandchildren Amy and Raelynn along with many special nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Knox United Church, 451 18th Street, Brandon, MB on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. A reception will follow the service.
