WAYNE JAMES SCOTT
1940 - 2023

It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Wayne James Scott on March 26, 2023 at the age of 82. Wayne passed peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba with family by his side.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Jennie Scott (Ferance), mother Ruby Scott (Harrison), father Francis (Jimmy) Scott, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brother Richard (Judy), children, Jamie (Cheri), Sherry (Clint), granddaughters, Emma and Melissa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was born in Winnipeg and was raised in the St. James area. He had very fond memories of his childhood and often talked about spending time with his parents and seeing movies with his Granny Harrison who lived with the family. As a child, Wayne participated in many activities and sports such as baseball, curling, fishing, golfing, gymnastics and music. He enjoyed spending time with his younger brother Rick and talked fondly of the family trips they had together.
He worked for various companies during his younger days in the 1960s. Wayne married his wife Jennie in 1969 and they had their children in the 1970s. In 1971, he began to work for the Province of Manitoba in the fuel and tobacco taxation division. Wayne was a Compliance Officer for many years until he then transitioned into auditing and managerial roles.
Wayne was a competitive curler for over 60 years and a member of many local curling clubs. He also enjoyed golfing with his numerous friends and the socializing that followed. He was a long-time legion member and was a supporter of many charitable organizations.
Wayne was a collector of many things, however his biggest passion was sports cards. He was a founding member of the Red River Sports Collectors' Association in 1982 and one of the pioneers of sports collectible shows in Winnipeg.
Wayne was the greatest provider to his family. He made personal sacrifices necessary to ensure that the needs of his children and grandchildren were the priority. Wayne became a grandfather in 2003 which brought him so much joy and laughter. He was proud of the great accomplishments of both granddaughters.
Wayne was a kind and generous man to others and made it a point to treat everyone equally. He also had a great sense of humour and an incredibly positive attitude even during challenging times.
We are comforted knowing that Wayne is free of pain with the Lord, his parents, uncles, aunts, and beloved family pets (Bruiser, Pugsley, Siris and Teka).
For their care and compassion we want to thank Dr. Penner and the staff on the 5th Floor and Urgent Care at Victoria General Hospital as well his family physician Dr. Rizk. We would also like to thank the staff at Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence for their various services and wonderful meals which he so enjoyed.
