HAZEL TAMAR GOODWIN
(BATEMAN)

August 31, 1930 - March 4, 2023

Peacefully on March 4 Hazel left us for her next great adventure.
Hazel was born and raised in Cork, in the South of Ireland. Upon completing grade school and working a few years in Cork, Hazel set off to live in Belfast where she attended nursing school at the Royal Victoria Hospital to become a registered nurse. Wanting to travel and see the world, Hazel enlisted in the British Army as a nurse and was stationed in Cyprus on the Mediterranean. It was there that she met the love of her life, and future husband Chris, when they stood up for friends that were married on the beach. After a whirlwind romance and engagement they were married in Carrigtwohill, a short walk from her parents home near Cork, before setting off for the frontier of Manitoba where they arrived on a frigid New Years Day! When asked on cold days if she missed the warmer weather of home she spoke of how much she loved the wide blue sky and sunshine of the prairies.
Hazel raised three boys on Montrose Street, and a gaggle of golden retrievers and cats over the years, enjoying the sun and blue sky at Victoria Beach in the summers and later at the Hillside Road house on Birds Hill Park.
Missed and loved by: her husband Chris; sons, Mike (Irene), Peter (Erin) and Tim (Colleen); as well as grandchildren, Brendan, Chris (Nadine), Adrianna (Jared), Devon, Kieran, Tanita, Lyra and Sydney (Jamie); and great-grandchildren, Sterling, Jaxon, Archie and Porter. She will also be missed by former daughters-in-law, Maria (mother of Chris and Adrianna), and Grace (mother of Tanita and Lyra).
Celebration of Life details to follow.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I only had the pleasure of meeting Hazel (and Chis) once, but I remember that visit well. We were there to purchase our family edition. Although that was many years ago, Hazel has always remained in my memory as a very friendly, loving and kind lady. Sending condolences to her family. - Posted by: Shirley Piotrowski (Acquaintance ) on: Apr 01, 2023
