Offer Condolences or Memory NICKOLAS LAWRENCE HALAYKO
June 4, 1960 - March 8, 2023
It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of our brother and uncle, Nick, at the age of 62.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Gladys Halayko. He is survived by his: brother Frank, niece Angela and grandniece Hunter Anne as well as his sister Kim, brother-in-law Bain, niece Katie and nephew Hunter Jack. He also leaves behind Aunt Nancy Staples as well as numerous cousins.
Nick was born and raised in Fisher Branch, Manitoba and attended school in Fisher Branch. He was the oldest brother of three children. He grew up on the farm where he worked hard doing the chores, working on the fields and reducing the workload of both our parents. He moved to Winnipeg at the age of 17 and worked as a welder at Walter Halayko Welding, CN Rail, and Flyer Industries.
He eventually moved to Lorette, Manitoba and enjoyed his home there for the past 25 years. The space of his acreage allowed his inquisitive nature to grow and drew him to many hobbies including bee keeping. Nick loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and camper enjoying many hours of ice fishing and quading.
He was fascinated by history and collected many mementoes from the history of our family. He often shared these treasures as well as stories from the farm. He had a passion for documentaries about history as well.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the mental health non-profit of your choice. A service will be held in May.

It was with great sadness that my sister relayed this tragic news to us. Brothers are such a huge part of our family that I cannot imagine your loss at losing Nick. He was such as huge part of our childhood for everyone in the Halayko, Dowbush and Staples families. I wish you comfort and peace as your face the days ahead without him at your side. I will see you in May and we will cry, laugh and remember all the funny things about Nick. Peace Be With You and Your Families Carol - Posted by: Caroline Staples (Cousin) on: Apr 03, 2023
