JEAN "CLAIRE" GOLDSTONE

(MURRAY)

Jean “Claire” Goldstone (nee Murray) passed away peacefully Friday, December 9, 2022 at the age of 94. Claire will lovingly be remembered by her children Colin, Dean and Ian; her daughters-in-law Joanne, Michelle and Joni; and her grandchildren Kelli, Paul, Sean, Peter, Kira, Zoe, Stephanie and Orion; and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Stewart, as well as her sister Joyce Smith and her brother Jim Murray.
Claire was born in Tuxford, Saskatchewan on October 19, 1928. Always a Prairie girl, she grew up in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. She went into nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1947 graduating in 1950, the year of the flood. She loved nursing, practicing in Brandon where she spent the rest of her life after marrying Stewart in 1950. Tales of polio and iron lungs, but also of life long friendships with fellow nurses.
Claire nurtured companionship wherever she went, including the people she came to know in her beloved Clear Lake cabin community, friendships through church, Heather Club, and a wonderful sisterhood through Eastern Star. Family was her bedrock though. She stepped back from nursing to nurture her three boys before returning to nursing after they had found their footing. She also stayed in touch with extended family and maintained connections with her cherished relatives in Scotland, where her dad had emigrated from as a young man.
She travelled widely with Stewart including trips to Europe, Australia and Mexico. Closer to home, she loved hiking with her grandchildren at Riding Mountain National Park, Pelican Lake, and in the Brandon Hills.
She leaves us with wonderful memories of cribbage games with no mercy, her incredible dedication as a hockey mom, long phone call visits filled with news, short bread and fantastic pastries.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Claire's life will be held at 1:00 p.m on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, 339 12th Street, Brandon with Rev. Laura Hargrove officiating. A private family interment will take place at Brandon Cemetery prior to the Memorial Service.
Flowers and cards gratefully declined. If you wish, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, the Foundation of First Presbyterian Church in Brandon or The Order of Eastern Star Brandon Queen Mary Chapter #3.
Many thanks to River Heights Terrace staff and the Assiniboine Centre staff and Palliative Care for the kind and compassionate care that was given to Claire and the entire family.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Auntie Claire was so special to me and my sister Joan. She always kept in touch with me over the years. Last June my husband Ron and I were in Brandon for a few days and enjoyed having lunch with her along with Ron's cousin Bill and his wife Vi. We always made a point of seeing her every trip we made back to Brandon. I am so sorry that we can't attend Auntie Claire's memorial. Deepest sympathy to my cousins and their families. She will always be kept in our hearts! I am sure Auntie Claire and Uncle Stewart are together again in heaven. With love Marilyn and Ron Richardson, Abbotsford, BC Joanie Burwash, Aldergrove, BC. - Posted by: Marilyn Richardson (niece --married to my Uncle Stewart Goldstone) on: Apr 11, 2023
