CAROL ANN MAGEE
Carol Ann Magee passed away unexpectedly in her home on March 22, 2023.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, Cassidy and Shawna and their partners, Haidee and Chris, her brothers, Lee (Wendy) and David (Terry), her grandson Townes, and the many friends she made in her loving and adventurous life.
Carol Ann was born in Toronto to Margaret and Gordon Cormie on June 29, 1955. In 1957 the family moved first to Brandon, then to Selkirk in 1958 and to Winnipeg in 1967. As a teenager there she connected with the St. James YMCA through which she developed lifelong friendships and a love of the outdoors. Carol Ann spent her summers as a youth at Camp Manitou and Camp Stevens where she would later work as a counsellor, trail guide, and trip leader on the river and lakes of northwestern Ontario.
In 1981 she married Shane Picken, moving with him to the Okanagan Valley where she would raise her children and live for the rest of her life. She worked as an operating room technician at Kelowna General Hospital, and as an LPN at Three Links Manor. In 1992 she remarried to Jerry Magee, forming a loving 26-year union that would last until Jerry’s death in 2018. Their welcoming home was a social hub for their friends and their children’s friends.
Carol Ann worked alongside Jerry on countless business ventures, and the two of them travelled the world for both work and pleasure. They made a kind of second home at the Kamaole Beach Club in Maui. In the 2000s, after years of swearing she would never ride a motorcycle, she learned to ride Harley Davidson and spent years exploring the continent with Jerry. Her light and open heart made her a beloved presence in the lives of many neighbours who she included in her life like members of the family. She became a grandma in 2016, and her love for Townes was one of the greatest joys in her life. Townes brought out her inner child, and the two of them spent endless days in play.
Carol Ann was a lover of sunshine, water, campfires, and friendship; she was a caring mother and grandmother, not only to her children and grandchild, but for many. She filled the lives of those she knew with laughter and song.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Soma Craft Cidery, 4485 Sallows Rd., Kelowna. If you have photos or memories of Carol Ann that you would like to be shared, please send them to friendsofcarolann@gmail.com
