ROBERT CHARLES ALFRED BROWN

B.Sc., C.A.

With sadness we announce the death of Robert (Bob) on March 29, 2023; he was 83.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Flo) (nee Nightingale), and his parents, William Sylvester (Les) and Margurite (Peggy) (nee Fleming). Bob will be missed by his children, Sheila (Michael), Paul (Milton) and David (Brenda) and his grandchildren, Cecile (Richard), Gabriel, Esther, Sophia, Ethan and Melissa. He will also be missed by his brother, William James (Bill) Brown, his wife, Jeanne and their son, William (Bill) (Sandra).

Bob was born at Misericordia hospital in Winnipeg on March 5, 1940. He attended St. Ann’s Parochial School in St. James. After graduating from St. Paul’s High School, Bob enrolled in the B.Sc. program at the University of Manitoba. While completing his B.Sc., he joined the University Naval Training Division (UNTD) of the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. During his summer training with the UNTD in Halifax, he met his future wife, Florence. They were married on August 5, 1962.

After completing his B.Sc., he joined the Winnipeg office of Clarkson Gordon, where he began his training as a Chartered Accountant. After earning his C.A. designation, he joined Ford Motor Company of Canada as Office Manager of its Winnipeg Parts Depot in 1966. In 1968, Ford moved Bob to its Parts Depot in Bramalea, Ontario. After two years, Bob transferred to Dealer Development at Ford’s Central Office Building in Oakville Ontario. He began his new assignment by teaching himself computer programming and became a consulted regional expert on dealer development computer issues. Bob worked at Ford for 33 years until his retirement in 2000.

In 1973, Bob, Flo and family moved from Brampton to Burlington. They were active members of St. Raphael Roman Catholic Parish. Music was always a part of Bob’s life: as a teen, he played the Hawaiian guitar and, as an adult, he learned to play the clarinet and joined the Burlington Concert Band. He supported the Burlington Junior Red Coats and the Teen Tour Band as a chaperone and a proud father, watching his sons march in both bands. Bob always enjoyed working on manual labour projects from landscaping to carpentry.

After Flo died in 2003, Bob and his dear friend Marlene Horne enjoyed many happy years together. They travelled extensively. In 2017, Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and in 2019 he moved to La Salle Park Retirement Residence. Then, in 2021, he moved to Shalom Village Long Term Care Facility. The family would like to thank the staff at both locations for their care of Bob. Visitation and Funeral were held on April 3 and 4 at Smith’s Funeral Home and Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church.

In Bob’s name, donations would be gratefully accepted to the Shalom Village Charitable Foundation, 70 Macklin Street North, Hamilton, ON or find the foundation at shalomvillage.ca
