GARY GORDON TOUGHER

March 17, 1938 - April 9, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary on April 9, 2023.

Gary is survived by his loving partner Margie Joss, daughter Shannon Bowden (Trevor), daughter-in-law Vicky Tougher, stepdaughters, Marnie and Melanie Joss, grandchildren, Sarah Tougher, Karissa and Declan Bowden, Breah Renwick (Mat Simard), Sydney Renwick and great-grandsons, Torin Tougher-Hildahl and Benoît Simard. He was predeceased by his son Daryl, whom he loved dearly.

Gary was born in Winnipeg, MB and spent his life in the city. The majority of his career was spent as a grain trader and entrepreneur. He enjoyed travels around the globe for work and later on with annual trips with Margie, often capturing stunning images with his camera.

Sports played a big part in his life, as a participant, coach, spectator and later on as Declan's biggest fan. He became a fixture at his many hockey and lacrosse games, always standing at the back of the arena and texting a few words of wisdom afterwards. He also loved to talk over what was happening with the Vikings or the Jets.

He enjoyed reading, doing crosswords with Margie and going to Refit. Nothing made him happier than spending time with Margie and seeing his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Thank you to the staff at Poseidon Care Centre who gave Gary and family extraordinary care in his final weeks.

A private family celebration will take place at a later date.

  • Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Mr.Tougher. I played hockey with Daryl on The Winnipeg Flames and I was good friends with Daryl and Mr. Tougher later in life. • I'm so sorry for your loss, Shannon. I have a memory of your dad helping me when I broke my arm at about age 8. I was coming home on my bike and thought riding on the curb was a good idea. I inevitably lost my balance and fell off my bike onto our lawn. Your dad was outside and came running over to help me up and into the house. I remember him being kind and soft spoken. Thinking of you and your family. - Posted by: Heather Pauls (Childhood friend ) on: Apr 16, 2023

  • Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gary. I first met Gary in 1996 when he hired me into head office at UGG. I was 23 years old and didn’t know much about anything, and I’m pretty sure he was aware of that fact. I will always remember him fondly as a great mentor and teacher with lots of patience. I will be eternally grateful for his coaching and support. I still use some of the words of wisdom he shared with me all those years ago as I work with new employees and make sure to credit him when I do. - Posted by: Darcy and Brenda Caners (Friend) on: Apr 15, 2023
