JEREMY DAVID CHERNETZ

December 7, 1999 – March 30, 2023

It is with profound sadness, that we announce the tragic passing of Jeremy, at the age of 23.

Jeremy was predeceased by his grandparents, Gordon and Virginia Chernetz, and his father Dave Chernetz. He is survived by his mother Susan (Nigel), his sister Julia (Derick), his grandparents, Jackie and Nelson Gushuliak, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jeremy was born in Winnipeg and attended Robert H. Smith School, River Heights Junior High, and Kelvin High School, where he met many people that went on to become lifelong friends. After high school, he worked at Canadian Tire before deciding to head west. He moved to Edmonton and started working at Trenton Cold Storage. He would often call with stories about work and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.

Jeremy was our ray of sunshine. He loved to laugh and joke around. He was passionate about basketball and skateboarding. He was happiest on his skateboard with a breeze in his face and the sun shining on his back. He loved nature and was excited about exploring the mountains and parks of Alberta.

Jeremy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I was blessed with the opportunity to coach Jeremy from elementary to high school. Jeremy was, is, and always will be the quiet, yet goofy kid who had some big moments on the court, and even bigger ones off of it by being himself and being the kid we loved. The teammate that could argue with you, but support you always. He was young enough to stand up for what he thought, but humble enough to let me know he recognized if I was right. I saw him at his job and skateboarding near my house years after basketball and he still approached me with the same love and respect. There was no one like him and I wish I had taken the chance to let him know how much he impacted my life. We will love and miss you, always. Kay - Posted by: Kay Mulenga (Coach ) on: May 30, 2023

  • I considered Jeremy one of my oldest friends. We met in elementary school and immediately became friends. I have countless memories of hanging out but one I am reminded of almost everyday is the day I picked out my cat Wesley. For some reason every time my family went to the humane society Jeremy would be invited. The day I picked out Wesley was no different, Jeremy helped us make a decision and It was definitely the right one. He will be missed very much by me and my family. - Posted by: Gabriel Odowichuk (Friendship ) on: May 07, 2023

  • I met Jeremy at River Heights, I was in grade 7, he was in 8. It started by acknowledging each other in the hallways with a nod, a smile and then a hello. Eventually the “hellos” grew to “how are yous” and then a hug. All throughout high school whenever we’d lock eyes in the hallway he’d open his arms to me and give me a big hug. I didn’t know him very well past those brief interactions but the smile he left on my face made a big difference. High school was a really difficult time and I doubt he knew how every smile and every hug really mattered to me. He was such a beautiful, selfless, sweet soul who’s small contribution in my life made it so much brighter. I would have liked to know him better but I’m just grateful to have known him at all. Sending my love, condolences and prayers. - Posted by: Daniela Lewis (Friend ) on: Apr 30, 2023

  • Jeremy came to work for me at Canadian Tire in 2019, it was a pleasure to have him on my team, he always was willing to help his fellow co-workers with whatever they might need and he always went above and beyond to help a customer always with a smile on his face. He was missed immensely when he left to go out west. I was very sad to hear of his passing and my condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: Nicole Payne (Employer) on: Apr 16, 2023

  • I started working at Trenton in December and he was one the first friends I made there. My time with him was short but I'm glad I got to know him. There wasn't a day we worked together where we wouldn't at least share a few laughs and talk about how we're doing at work. He had a positive energy that made everyone feel comfortable around him. No one is really saying much at Trenton but his passing has definitely affected all of us in some way. My sincerest condolences go out to Jeremy's family. I wouldn't wish this on anyone - Posted by: Ethan Bradley (Friend ) on: Apr 15, 2023
