BYRON O'DONNELL
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Byron Maurice O’Donnell, who passed away peacefully amongst family and friends at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on April 8, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Charlotte O’Donnell as well as his siblings, Geraldine, Darrell, Vaughan, Brian and Barry.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, William (Julianna), Leah, and his grandchildren, Briar and Brody. He is also survived by his siblings, Deborah, Brian, Charlene, Carrie, Gwen, Anna and Burt.
Born in McNamee, NB, Byron travelled across all of Canada, living a storied life as an award winning musician and composer. This musical journey started in BC where he established himself as an in-demand vocalist then would develop a masterful prowess for songwriting and spent years working primarily as a composer of country and rock hits for himself and other artists. Right up to his literal final hours, he was making new fans everywhere he went.
Byron was cremated, as per his request. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church Monday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba

Byron was an important person in my life. We met through our mutual associates, Craig Fotheringham, and Rhonda Hart. When Byron decided to strike out on his own as a solo artist, I was invited to join his solo project as his guitarist, and we worked together for about 4 years until I moved out of the area. Byron was always a joy to be around. We all admired and respected his creative gifts and his wonderful singing voice. Over these past decades we only communicated on occasion, but I was always looking to see what new poem or song he would post online. I still believe to this day that Byron was in an elite circle of Canada's best writers. RIP old friend. - Posted by: Ari Lahdekorpi (Musical cohort and friend) on: Apr 20, 2023
