Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (KEN) ESDALE
Peacefully, with his daughters by his side, Ken passed away on Thursday April 13, 2023, at Golden West Centennial Lodge.
Ken will be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughters, Tammy (Matt), Tara (Kerry), and his cherished grandchildren, Kyia, Tayia, Karsten, and Colton. Ken was predeceased by his loving wife, Wendy, his parents, sister, Gail, and brother-in-law, Gerry.
Ken was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on March 20, 1943, and lived in Ontario, Alberta and lastly, Winnipeg where he met the love of his life Wendy ‘Wens’ and raised their daughters. Throughout his business career Ken held a variety of sales and marketing positions. He ended his working career as General Manager of Breezy Bend Country Club.
Ken was the definition of a gentlemen, a caring and supportive husband to his wife and a loving father to his daughters. He was an amazing caregiver and provided unconditional love to his family and extended family; always putting others needs ahead of his own.
The family cabin at Willard Lake was a source of pride and joy for Ken. The original cottage was built by Ken and his father. The guest cottage, which followed for his daughters and families, was a labour of love for Ken. Together the two cabins unified his family and provided all of us with a paradise like no other.
Ken was proud of his affiliation with Canada's National Hockey Team ("Nats"), who were inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009. His years with the Fort Richmond Old Timer's hockey team were meaningful to Ken. He continued to play hockey until the age of 75 in Stonewall. He was a member of Breezy Bend Country Club and a longstanding member and past president of the Granite Curling Club. Ken was involved with the Kirkfield Westwood Community Club for many years coaching and volunteering in various roles.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Rosewood and at Golden West Centennial Lodge for the care and comfort they gave Ken.
In accordance with our Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

Dave and Ken coached hockey together for many years. I knew Ken and Wendy from Biglow Pharmacy. And we all golfed together at Breezy Bend. They were a special couple with a love of community involvement and making the world a better place. Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Brenda Parrott and Dave Morison (Friends) on: Apr 24, 2023

Tammy, Tara, and family I was truly saddened by the death of you father, one of the truly nice people (your mother being another) I have met. Ken was a true gentleman, the kind you want to be a representative of your country on an elite hockey team playing on the world stage. But he was also a great teammate on our Fort Richmond Oldtimers team, bringing skill, experience, and fun-loving competitive spirit to a diverse group. I had the pleasure to room with Ken at some of the hockey tournaments we played in. We worked together with Dorothy Rudd to organize an annual golf tournament and dinner for our team and wives at Breezy Bend. I was so happy that Ken stopped to visit and play some golf with Bev and me in Hemet, California following your mother’s death. And I grieved for all of us when it became clear that dementia was stealing this wonderful human being from us. My sincere condolences to you and your family. All of the remaining members and spouses of our Fort Richmond hockey tournament look forward to sharing our memories of Ken when you are able able to hold the celebration. - Posted by: John McIntyre (Friend, Fort Richmond Oltimers hockey team) on: Apr 23, 2023

I wish to send my condolences to the family in the loss of your Dad. I grew up living two doors away on Traill Ave. Although Ken was a few years older than I, and Wendy was one year ahead of me in high school, he was always friendly with the kids on the street. I will always be grateful for the family, as I managed to coerce my parents at the age of eight to let me have my first puppy, a Boston Terrier, which was born in the Esdale basement. Her Mom was Boots and we called her Corky. I remember my friend and I used to sneak over and peek in the basement window to see the puppies and Mrs. Esdale would invite us in to see them. I had my dog, my best friend, for 14 years, thanks to this family. May your happy memories of your parents help you to ease your pain of losing them. The memories will be with you forever. - Posted by: Judy MacKenzie (Ross) (childhood neighbour) on: Apr 22, 2023

Today I want to acknowledge someone from our community who has passed, but I didn't really know personally. My son attended the same school as his daughter, so there was a connection of sorts, but her dad's contribution to our area really made an impact on many available resources that we sometimes take for granted. As a couple, the Esdale's prominently showed up for all sorts of fundraising and community causes. Ken involved himself, using his connections, his expertise, his skill, and his philanthropic attitude to improve where we live and play. Without people like him and the diligent focus he used to get things done, perhaps nothing, and for sure, less would. I know we benefitted from his involvement with the KW Keith Bodley Arena and its construction planning. I know my son has enjoyed Breezy Bend's operations. I'm sure many from the area curled against him. So today, I feel an offering of respect should be shown to his family to tell them that his and Wendy's contributions really did matter in spite of the anonymity they preferred. Rest in Peace, and thanks. - Posted by: Joanna LaForte (Community acquaintance) on: Apr 22, 2023
