FRANCES LUELLA JONES

(nee COOK)

July 17, 1926 – March 21, 2023

Luella (Lue) Jones was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother during her 96 years of life. She passed away suddenly but peacefully in Winnipeg on March 21, 2023.

Lue is survived by daughter Linda (Gert) Johansson, grandchildren, Anders (Suzanne), Evan, and Karin (Graham) and great-grandchildren, Keira, Erik, Mathias and Freya; brother Allan (Clara) and two sisters, Carol and Ardeth (Rick) as well as many nieces and nephews. Lue was predeceased by two husbands, Richard (Dick) Hutchison (d. 1975) and Clifford Jones (d. 2017), daughter Sherron Luella Hutchison (d. 1953) as well as sister Irene and brother Walter.

Lue was born in Virden, MB in 1926 to George and Bertha Cook. Luella and her siblings established a lifelong bond and prioritized spending time together throughout their lives.

When she married Dick in 1947, they moved to Winnipeg. They had two daughters, Linda and Sherron. Although times were not always easy, especially after the tragic loss of Sherron, they both found joy in gardening and going out dancing. Lue and Dick celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1973.

In the years following Dick’s death, Lue met Cliff and they were married in 1978. Cliff and Lue were lucky to be able to travel to many parts of the world. They spent 22 years as Winter Texans and enjoyed summers at Victoria Beach. Lue was fortunate to celebrate a second 25th wedding anniversary, this time with Cliff in 2003.

Lue loved her family. Christmases, birthday celebrations, and family reunions throughout western Canada were important annual milestones for her. In her later years, Lue lived in the Summerland apartment complex and then at the Seine River Retirement Residence. She enthusiastically participated in all events offered and made many friends.

The family would like to thank the Seine River staff, family doctor Dr. S. Ahmad, and all her home care workers.

In keeping with Lue’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Assembly in Virden, MB. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Winnipeg Children’s Hospital or CancerCare would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I’ve only known Luella for the last five years at Seine River Retirement but used to see her almost every morning on our way down for breakfast. I would sometimes get her coffee and often a banana which she loved to eat in the morning. Sometimes we would talk about Victoria Beach where I went each summer as a child and youth. I miss her smile and hard of hearing presence. My wife respected her abilities (at her age!) playing cards in the Multipurpose Room. We miss her. - Posted by: Bob Galston (Friend) on: Apr 22, 2023
