Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHOWARD JAMES WALDEN
It is with great sadness that we announce Howard's passing, peacefully in his sleep, on April 6, 2023, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Howard is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his son Jeff Walden (Susie), daughter Alison Walden (Arti), grandchildren Lila Chan and Nolan Chan, first son-in law Norm Chan, brothers Fred Walden (Rose) and John Walden (Marianne), brother-in-law Jerry Barker, nieces Krista Barker Delaine, Shannon Ford, Heather Walden, Leigh-Ann Walden and Andrea Marsh, and nephews Tim Walden, Andrew Walden, and Matthew Walden. He was predeceased by his wife Karen Walden, partner Lorraine Bailey, parents Thomas and Gwendoline Walden, father-in-law Gordon Barker and mother-in-law Ruby Barker.
Howard was born on May 26, 1939, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, the middle child to Thomas and Gwendoline Walden. He attended Greenway, General Wolfe and Tech-Voc schools. As a young man, Howard developed a passion for sports, was a member of the cadets and had a keen interest in cars. He became a skilled auto mechanic and this led to a long and successful career with the Manitoba Telephone System (MTS).
Howard had an adventurous spirit and took advantage of opportunities through MTS to live in Thompson, Manitoba, explore northern Manitoba, and eventually move his family to Brandon where they settled. Howard met the love of his life, Karen, in the early sixties and they married in September of 1964. Children Jeff and Alison soon followed. Howard and Karen were most at home when spending time with family. Whether it was trips to Ingolf, summer camping trips or kids' birthday parties, family was always their priority. Howard was a diligent father and was always there to support his children. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his MTS buddies and traveling with Karen. Howard's family greatly appreciates the care he received by the staff at Fairview Personal Care Home.
As per Howard's wishes, there will be no service. He will be laid to rest next to Karen at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in Howard's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
