It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Christopher Lavoie on March 19, 2023, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Christopher was born on November 17, 1979, to proud parents Carolyn and Kerry Lavoie in Hinton, AB. He grew up in new subdivision surrounded by forest and grew to revere the outdoors. As a teen, Christopher earned the Chief Scout award, the highest award in Scouts.
After graduating Harry Collinge High School in 1998, he earned his red seal in carpentry. He worked at Mark Deagle Log Building for years and has left beautiful examples of log art all over Hinton. If it could be dreamt of, Chris could build it out of log and timber. He made bed frames, tables, chairs, mantels, gazebos, homes, and more. He had a real knack for making one-of-a-kind pieces of artistry. He would find an old, twisted log and make functional artwork out of it.
Christopher decided to expand his horizons and moved to Winnipeg, MB. He found work in construction with a focus on concrete. He quickly learned new skills due to his attention to detail and precision. He was soon promoted to supervisor. He helped build many structures, from parkades to foundations for large condos and apartment buildings. He always took great pride in his work.
Christopher’s greatest love was the great outdoors. He was happiest when he was kayaking, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing and more. He climbed mountains, rode rapids, and found his peace in the wilderness. He was beautifully irreverent. He had countless catchphrases that we’ll all remember with fondness, but those won’t be written here. He worked hard, played hard, and loved even harder. He was adored by his family and will be remembered as a great friend to many.
Christopher was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Esther Newfield, Bert Newfield, and Clement Lavoie. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Kerry and Carolyn Lavoie, his siblings, Bob (Tara) Lavoie, Kara (Kath) Lavoie, his nephew Logan Lavoie, his grandmother Betty Yelden, many aunts and uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He will be forever missed.
A service will be held in Hinton at a later date.
The family requests that friends visit Christopher Lavoie's tribute wall at www.bardal.ca where condolences, photos and stories may be placed for all to see.
