Sadly, on January 28, 2023, Richard "Dick" Hubert Douglas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away after complications from medical procedures. Sue (nee Pilkington), his devoted Wife of 25 years, was by his side.
Dick, born May 4, 1929, was the eldest of five children of William Douglas (Works Manager CPR Westin Shops) and Gertrude "Trudy" McGowan of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Dick was a sportsman! In his youth and early adulthood, Dick loved and played hockey! He eventually played "forward" for the Calgary Buffalos, forerunner of the Calgary Flames. In later years, he played forward for the Hollywood All Stars and several other Old Timer teams, always ending the year with a tournament at the Charles Schultz Arena. Dick remained a consummate hockey aficionado, supporting the Anaheim Ducks with season tickets.
As all members of the Canadian Douglas Family, Dick loved horses (especially their breeding and speed) and was often seen with his little sister Carolyn, at Polo Park Racetrack in Winnipeg. This love of horses prompted a thoroughbred purchase with friends for racing at Hollywood Park! Yearly, Dick and Family could be seen at Los Alamitos, Santa Anita, and Del Mar Racetracks! Dick, Sue, Carolyn, and Dave celebrated his 80th Birthday at the Kentucky Derby where he had the winning ticket on the first place finisher, 'Mind that Bird" winning over $100 for a $2 dollar bet.
Dick also loved baseball! He coached his son Rick's team to several championships! He and Sue attended "Spring Training" of many teams and were season ticket holders of the Anaheim Angels and caught a few Dodger Games in LA.
Dick stepped out of his sports world to escort his beautiful daughter Wendy to the "Homecoming" Ball at San Clemente High School. She was runner up!
Many Thursday afternoons would find Dick golfing with State Farms Buddies at Mile Square Park! These Buddies supported each other in business and in life for over 40 years!
Dick immigrated to the United States in 1957 with his then wife Pat, children, Wendy and Rick, third son David was born in California. He first worked as a machinist during the construction of the Shell Oil Refinery in Long Beach, before becoming the State Farm Agent in San Clemente CA. for over 50 years. These years earned him many friends, due to his personal integrity, honesty, attentiveness, and general love of people.
Dick is survived by his wife Sue and her children, Sean, Denise, Kristina, as well as his ex-wife Patricia Walters, originally of Calgary Alberta, Canada and their children: Wendy Morgan (Mark); Rick Douglas (Lorraine), grandsons, Aaron, Chase, with son Tucker, and granddaughter Dawn, with great-grandchildren, Faith, Skye, Maya; and son David Douglas, grandchildren, Jade Ann and Kaleigh; sisters: Carolyn McKenzie (David), nephews, Duncan (great-nephew Guillaume), and Diel; Lois Smith predeceased him by three years (Ian), children, Doug, Marnie, Jeff, Kent; Janice Lange (Bill), children, Amanda and Kerry; brother Barry Douglas predeceased him by five years, (Heather), children, Shelly MaCaw (Miles) and son Trace.
The family has indeed lost an important member of their Clan: the world has indeed lost an important member of the human race!!!
