SHARON DIAMOND

Sharon Diamond (nee Vickar) was born and raised in the small town of Melfort, SK surrounded by many close family and friends. Sharon would often share wonderful memories of a house filled with cousins always coming over to see what was in the family fridge, and being able to walk over to grandparents to pick up Friday afternoon baking. There was always a close cousin, Auntie our Uncle nearby. At the age of 15 Sharon, along with her parents and younger brother, David Vickar, moved to the city of Winnipeg, MB. Big city life was a big adjustment and family was more spread out. Shortly after graduating high school, at Grant Park High (class of 1968), Sharon met the love of her life Marty Diamond, at a Jewish youth bowling party. It was love at first sight. After a few years including some long distance motorcycle adventures, Sharon and Marty settled down to start the proudest achievement of her life, a family. Sharon had two wonderful daughters Launi (Bryan Rear) and Jocelyn (Mike Morton) and became a fiercely devoted mother. Sharon's most acclaimed career was raising her girls. Volunteer opportunities involved sitting on many school board activities, and event planning. Sharon was one of the establishing parents of the Jewish Public School system here in Winnipeg. She organized and chaired many events from school fundraisers, hot lunch days, yearly school BBQs and grad committees. Once Sharon's children were old enough to move on and start families of their own Sharon became the most proud grandmother of Madden (Diamond Rear) and most recently Glam ma to "Zora the Frenchie" among many other fur grandbabies. Sharon was a constant companion to her mother, Ann Vickar (Morris) devoted caregiver, best friend and daily coffee buddy. Daily Starbucks visits with family at 3:00 p.m. have been and will continue be to routine.

After a courageous year-long battle with AML leukemia Sharon passed away peacefully with her immediate family at her side at the St Boniface Hospital palliative care unit. Many thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners at CancerCare Manitoba, Lisa, Dawn and Dr B. Houston. The St. Boniface palliative care unit, and the Palliative home care team, nurses Lisa and Lana for their compassion and support. Sharon was a strong believer that the land be used for the living and in her memory she requests that friends and loved ones plant a tree in her honour. A hardy tree able to survive and withstand our harsh Manitoba winters, and remind us of the warmth that family can bring us.

Alternatively donations or support can be made to, Trees for Tomorrow through the as Assiniboine Park Conservatory or Trees for Life organization in her memory.
