ARLIE JANE LASKEY

June 21, 1955 - December 3, 2022

Arlie was born in Winnipeg, MB. She was predeceased by her mother Gwendolyn Laskey. Arlie is loved and remembered by her father Jack Laskey, sister Roxanne Piché, brother-in-law Michael Piché, her nieces, Jessica Piché, Sarah Piché and her great-nephew Matthew Youst.

In her younger years, Arlie lived and worked in a few cities across Western Canada, Banff, Vancouver and Fort McMurray, but Winnipeg was always home to her. Her last job was at Concordia Hospital, a place that felt very much like home to her, Arlie had many great friends there and when she came home she always shared the funny things that happened that day to our parents.

Arlie was also for a time a member of a Dragon Boat Team here in Winnipeg, a position that she felt was important to her and she looked forward to their practices on the Red River. Arlie loved people, that's who she was, and people loved her back. She was happiest doing for others, but not asking for anything in return.

Arlie was devoted to her parents and looked after their care as they aged well into their 90s.

A celebration of her life will be May 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.

A private interment will precede the Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Arlie's name may be made to the Concordia Foundation at concordiafoundation.ca or by mail at The Concordia Foundation, 1095 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S8. Please designate your donation and we honour all designations such as a donation for Concordia Place, Operation Walk Manitoba, Arthroplasty Research.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Arlie's passing. Looking back at our high school escapades brings a smile & a good chuckle. We had quite the run with Arlie bringing the fun ....& most often the car (the Trollmobile) always up for the next adventure, pyjama party or whatever, with her Arlie brand of humour & quirkiness. Such fond memories. Oh Arlie, nobody else like you! Heaven's gain. My condolences to the family & all those so close to her. - Posted by: Ronalee Janzen (school friend) on: May 26, 2023

  • Arlie was always so much fun! Our Mom's went to "Hen's Party" together. We lost touch as adults but met again when my Mom was in hospital at Concordia. She would come up and visit..always making us laugh! It was like we had never been apart. Mom said she visited her during the day too when Lil and I couldn't be there. Arlie was there for my family at a difficult time. I am blessed to have known her. Susan Fletcher, Friend - Posted by: Susan Fletcher (Friend) on: May 22, 2023

  • Arlie was an amazing friend who I will always hold near and dear to my heart. So many memories including paddling on the dragon boat team with her. Arlie used to come out to our farm and loved to help me with my flower beds and garden. She loved our riding lawn mower she named Dennis and would often come home from a long day of work to our acreage being beautifully cut! Arlie was accident prone and always had a great story to what took place that would result in many belly laughs like the time she weeded herself into a hornets nest and the description of her running around my yard stripping her clothes off and fleeing from the hornets. Another time when she was house sitting, she locked herself out of the house and managed to get in some how climbing through our bedroom window. I am pretty sure she had a broken foot at the time and involved her climbing up a ladder, get through the the window and onto our bed. We always always enjoyed finishing the day off with a game of back gammon and a beer. I will miss you Arlie and that incredible laugh of yours. I will always have a cold labbatt’s lite waiting in the fridge for you Love always Sharon - Posted by: Sharon Klos (Friend) on: May 15, 2023
