Ilga began her journey to meet her best friend and husband, John (predeceased in 2000).
Ilga leaves behind her family, Judy Leach (Ken), Nancy Murray, Sylvia Burka (David), John Burka (Debbie); grandchildren, Kevin, Cindy, Pam, Clayton, Laura, Tess and Katie; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan, Elias, Dain, Dyson, Sammy, Jessie, Carter, Callum and Coen; great-great-grandchildren, Aurora, Kenai and Beth.
Family was important to both John and Ilga. Together they held many family gatherings to celebrate special occasions that included all the traditional Latvian dishes.
John and Ilga’s greatest gifts were their family and the love they shared. John’s passing left mom broken hearted but now they are together again for eternity.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street.

I remember growing up and having a family Cabin close to the Burkas, I remember hanging around with Nancy, Sylvia and Judy and yes I remember some of those dishes Mrs Burka would make.....Those were the good old days when life was so much simpler... She was known affectionately as "Mrs. Burka" to us teenagers. She was a strong woman who was very focussed on the well being of her family. Our families both had summer homes at Lundar Beach in the Interlake. I have some wonderful memories growing up at the cottage with the Burka family ---especially the flashing house lights!!.
