Notre maman est partie comme elle a vécu, paisiblement, dans son sommeil. Elle est décédée, à l’âge de 90 ans au Centre Action Marguerite St-Vital. Elle est enfin réunie avec son bien-aimé, notre papa, Denis.

She leaves to mourn her three children, Marc (Collette Rioux), Colette (Raymond Clément) and Rachel (Robert Lafrenière); her nine grandchildren, Maxime (Stephanie), Sylvain, Janelle, Pierre, Annick, Éric (Homa), Mathieu (Sabrina), Julie and Alix (Nicholas); her four great-grandchildren, Madeleine Roy, Léo and Louis Lafrenière and Noah Le Gal; her two sisters, Florence (Torcutti) and Yvette (Roland) Boisvert, her brothers, Louis, Jean (Armande), Jules (Louise), Claude (Suzanne); her in-laws: Denise and Colette Balcaen, Yvette Poirier, Lorraine (Louis) Gauvreau, Monique (Raymond) Paulhus, Gisèle (Fiola), and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Denis, her parents, Joseph and Éva (Laurencelle) Balcaen, her stepmother, Madeleine Dugas, her grandchild Josée, her sister Lina (Gérard) Decelles, brothers, Fernand (Georgette), Hubert and Maurice; her in-laws, Dominique Torcutti, Maria and Jeanne Balcaen; her parents-in-law, Joachim and Lodia Le Gal, brothers and sisters-in-law: Thérèse (Gendreau), Anita (Wes) Caldwell, Diane (Émile) Trudeau, Roland, Jean-Paul and Guy Le Gal, and Edgar Poirier.

Maman est née et a grandi sur une ferme à La Broquerie, la 3e d’une famille de 11 enfants. Après sa 11e et 12e année, elle partit enseigner sous permis, à Aubigny, Ross et à l’école du Précieux-Sang. En juillet 1958, elle épousa l’amour de sa vie, Denis Le Gal. Ils se sont établis à St Boniface, où ils élevèrent leurs trois enfants. Maman retourna sur le marché du travail lorsque la benjamine commença l’école et passa 20 ans à travailler dans le département des Medical Records, à l’Hôpital St-Boniface. En 2002, elle déménagea avec Papa à l’Accueil Colombien, où ils se sont fait de nombreux amis. Le décès de notre père en décembre 2015 et la pandémie ont été très difficiles sur la santé de notre mère.

Our mother was a kind, gentle and generous soul. She was soft-spoken and made everybody feel at ease and welcome. She cherished her husband and family, her French Canadian culture and community and her Catholic faith.

Family would like to thank staff at Action Marguerite St-Vital and her companions for their kindness and special care, and express their appreciation to family members and friends who came to visit her.

La célébration des funérailles aura lieu le vendredi 26 mai 2023 à 11h00 en la Cathédrale de St-Boniface et sera précédée de témoignages à partir de 10h45. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 11:00 in the St-Boniface Cathedral and preceded by eulogies at 10:45.
