JOAN ANNE SHIELDS
It is with great sadness the family of Joan Shields announces her peaceful passing on Friday May 19th.
Joan was born in West Drayton, England on October 2nd 1935. Joan and her family immigrated to Canada in 1952 and settled in Montreal. Joan married William (Bill) Shields in 1957, and together they moved their growing family to Manitoba, first settling in Brandon, then moving to Alexander where she raised her family and made many life long friends.
Joan attended Brandon University while working part time obtaining her education degree in 1976. Joan loved teaching at JR Reid School and often talked fondly of her students.
Mum, Gramma, and Great-Gramma will be greatly missed by son Michael (Brenda), his children Kirby (Brendan) and Mackenzie (Nico Dawshka), and Kirby's son Odin Dilk Sobkowich; son Kendall (Lory George) and their children Hannah (Jacob), Fisher, and Katie (Gavin); the children of her dearly departed son Glenn, Nicole (Ashley), Travis (Spring), and Devon; and daughter Alissa and her children Stephen and Rumer (Parth).
A special heartfelt thanks to all the people at Mum's housing co-op for supporting Mum in friendship, and helping her to be able to stay in her home as long as possible.
Joan was predeceased by her daughter Lianne (1978), son Glenn (2010), daughter-in-law Debbie Shields (Lowe)(2021), Bill Shields (2007), brother David, and sister Barbara.
A graveside service will be held for Joan on Saturday May 27th at 11:00am in Alexander followed by a tea at the Alexander Community Center
