ROY DEMERS
It is with profound sadness that we announce that Roy Demers passed away peacefully at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre during the early hours of May 14, 2023, at the age of 70 years, with family by his side. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Derouin); sons Brent (Janice) and Brad (Janna); grandchildren Brooke, Jacob, and Jordyn; and great-grandchild, Nolan.
Roy was an amazing Papa/Grandpa. He spent hours reading and playing with his grandchildren. He had a special “coco bonk” which was always followed by the best belly laughs.
Roy also leaves to mourn his sister, Carol (Pat); brother, John (Elaine); brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Joanne), Gord (Bev), Wendy (Harvey), Bob (Dianna), Doug (Michelle), Greg (Lori); and many nephews and nieces. Roy also left behind his two best friends Dale and Sharlene Robson, and numerous golf buddies.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Marie; in-laws, Charles and Florrie Derouin; and brother-in-law, Don Derouin.
Roy was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba where he met the love of his life Betty. Roy and Betty would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on May 18th. During Roy’s life he enjoyed and excelled at many sports such as baseball, ten-pin bowling, and of course, golf. Roy was an avid golfer and made many friends that kept him going over the last two years. Roy remained busy during winter months by volunteering to work the home team penalty box at Wheat King games for over 25 years.
Roy worked as a shipper and receiver at Saputo for much of his career. Upon retirement Roy and Betty spent winters in Mesa where they made good friends, and Roy could continue to golf.
A service will be held at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. for family and good friends followed by a time of remembrance at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 560 13th Street East for all those wishing to attend. Attire for the day will be casual golf wear in memory of Roy.
