LYDIA MAXINE BARYLA

It is with heartfelt sadness that our family announces the passing of Lydia Maxine Baryla, known to most as Max. Max started life in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan on February 28, 1939 and passed on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Max is the last of eight of her beloved siblings, Tom, Corrine, Bernice, Frances, Lloyd, Melvin and Floyd and leaves behind five children, Terry Barnes, Kim Cole, Mitzi Baryla Rodriguez, Bob Baryla, Pat Baryla and a daughter-in-law Sandy Baryla; four beautiful grandchildren, Lee Ann Wall, Brett Hotas, Livia Rodriguez, Faith Baryla, as well as three great-grandchildren, RJ, Austin, Zach Chicoine and her sister-in-law and good friend Betty Beamish.

Max was a free spirit with a passion for the outdoors, nature, animals, music and children. Max had a great presence in life wherever she went - and did it her way. Thank you to all her friends in life for being there.

Later in life she acquired a new family at Riverview Health Centre, to whom our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for their love and friendship. Thank you to all the doctors, nursing staff, healthcare aids, cleaning and kitchen staff along with all the others at Riverview short and long term care.

A gathering will be held at Riverview Health Centre Chapel, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, R3L 2P4 on June 23, 2023 between 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riverview Health Centre; Cycle of Life AB1 & AB2 or Winnipeg Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

  • To my beautiful Baryla friends my deepest condolences on the passing of Maxine. When l first started at MTS as a teenager Maxine was one of the first people to take me under her wings. I always had a good time working with her. - Posted by: Daria Cyr (Coworker) on: May 28, 2023

  • Max was a very special friend of mine for all the years we worked together at MTS. We shared a great friendship..had so many laughs and a few glasses of wine together. Max was an awesome cook and was always bringing in samples of her goodies. She above all loved her family with all her being and they were her life. She was so kind and giving and like her obit said ...she did it her way. Sincere sympathy to all her family and I know she will be terribly missed. Max is now free and in the arms of an angel. HUGS TO ALL from her old friend Cheryl. - Posted by: cheryljamieson (friend) on: May 27, 2023

  • I knew Maxine growing up on Mercury Bay, she was one of the many “Mercury Bay Moms” growing up but she always had a place in my heart ♥️ Maxine was a sweetheart and gave me one of my first teenage haircuts and I LOVED IT! She always had a smile on her face and welcomed us kids with open arms. We were all lucky having Maxine in our lives back then, I know my Mom adored her and Loved having Coffee (sometimes a glass of wine) with her and loved her company because it was constant laughing. I am sending love to Kim, Mitzi, Bobby and Pat and their families at this sad time. We were lucky kids to live on Mercury Bay and Maxine was ONE of the reasons it was a wonderful Bay to grow up on.
