CARL LAUFER

Carl Laufer peacefully passed away on May 26, 2023 at the age of 91.

Carl was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in the early 70's and shortly after moved to our family farm in East Selkirk, Manitoba where he and Eunice would raise their four children.

He had many accomplishments in his 91 years but a few that stand out are:

Moving from SGI in Saskatchewan to start up Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) here in Manitoba. To this day many of the founding principles of MPI are still in place.

He loved to build things...including our home in East Selkirk where we spent many great years as a family.

He was always working on some kind of project. Even when he was in the Maples Personal Care home he would buy tools on sale at Canadian Tire as he was sure he would be starting another project one day soon!

Left to share a lifetime of memories of him and those that passed before him are his children: Lance (Colleen), Brent (Tanis), Tracey, Carla (Curtis), his six grandchildren and his three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of a service we will be having a private family gathering. Thank you to his nurses at Maples Personal Care Home who were always so caring.

Until we meet again...

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I first met CARL in the early 70’s when he as appointed the Claims Manager for the new MPIC. Our friendship continued through the years to his assumption of the leading role as President of MPIC. Our relationship was a mixture of business & pleasure & my family & I became close to his family spending many great visits at his family home known as “THE FUNNY FARM” in East Selkirk. RIP CARL, thank you for the friendship, you will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Garry LEACH (Friend/business associate) on: May 27, 2023

  • Carl was a stabilizing factor at MPIC for many years. The way he would maintain a calm demeanour in the face of a challenge never ceased to amaze me. May he rest in peace along with J.O. With the greatest of respect. G. Rodgers, Former MGEA Rep. - Posted by: Grant Rodgers (Friend) on: May 27, 2023

  • So sorry yo hear about your father's passing. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. My condolences. - Posted by: Cher Gottfredsen (Smith) (Friend of Carla) on: May 27, 2023

  • So very sad to hear of Carl’s passing. Deepest sympathies to the entire Laufer family. Words cannot take the pain away but through memories your father will always be with you. - Posted by: Sabrina Taylor (Friend) on: May 27, 2023

  • Carl was an exec. at MPI when I started in 1973, I remember him as a class gentleman who made sound logical decisions starting the Corp. off on a solid footing. It remained that way as long as the Presidents that followed came from a claims background. 91 is a good long life, RIP - Posted by: John Zaplitny (Coworker) on: May 27, 2023
