BRIAN (WILLIAM) ARMSTRONG

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of William Brian Armstrong. Surrounded by family, Brian passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022, at the Victoria General Hospital.

Brian is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverley (Holms) Armstrong; his son Todd; his daughter Debbie (spouse Carl Bartels) and grandchildren, Isabela and Elliot Bartels.

Brian had an incredibly full life and seemed to make wonderful friends everywhere he went. He spent 50 plus years volunteering at the YMCA and received the Premier's Volunteer Service Award for his work with the Special Olympics (thanks to the "Y" gang). He volunteered for many years for the Children's Hospital Book Market which was an Armstrong family legacy. In retirement he found a new passion teaching round dancing in Winnipeg, he loved finding new music and creating dances he could share with others. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Brian, a kind husband, an understanding father, a dog lover and a master tinkerer, he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Children's Hospital.

Interment will be closed to family.

  • Our Deepest Sympathy to the Armstrong family. I remember Brian from years ago at our large family celebrations. I mostly remember Brian’s friendly demeanour and biggest smile! He will be missed I’m sure. - Posted by: Brenda (Richards) Millar (Cousin) on: Jun 06, 2023

  • Dear Bev and family. I have lost touch because of personal illness and so was very saddened to her of Brian's passing. As you know we go way back to old Central Y days where he was a senior leader volunteer when I was on staff. Then he was a mighty force for work with mentally handicapped adults at St. Vital (South) YMCA. He did great work with them. But we became closest when you and Brian became partners in the Round dance world with Thor & Marvis Sigurdson and Marilyn and me. Great fun, dancing, music and friendships. I will always cherish those years. You and the family have my deepest sympathy in Brian's loss. Take care Hal Studholme - Posted by: Harold Studholme (Old Friend) on: Jun 03, 2023
