JACK HENRY HYDE

October 7, 1936 – May 20, 2023

On May 20, 2023, Jack Henry Hyde went to be with his Heavenly Father.

Jack was born to Nicolai and Annie (Goertzen) in Lowe Farm, MB, the ninth of 10 children. Following high school, Jack worked for Winnipeg Hydro, where he met Hazel Schwab. They were married on September 7, 1963.

After graduating from United College (University of Winnipeg), Jack accepted a ‘two-year’ high school teaching position in The Pas - they stayed for 53 years. During his 35-year career, Jack served as guidance counselor, principal, “04”/ Work Experience Coordinator, and “Reach for the Top” coach. Over 1200 students - all called “Charlie” - had him as their driving instructor.

Besides family and work, Jack’s faith in Jesus was a major commitment. He served in many capacities at church, with the Gideons, and was instrumental in founding Simonhouse Bible Camp, which continues to serve northerners today.

Jack will be remembered for his strong convictions, generosity, mischievous sense of humour, and unwavering support for the ‘underdog’ in all walks of life.

As Jack’s health declined, they moved to Winnipeg in 2015, and he entered Meadowood Manor in 2019. After battling dementia, Dad died peacefully with family by his side. Hazel sang him off into eternity with the hymn, "What a day, glorious day that will be." School may be out for Jack, but we will spend our lifetime digesting and emulating the lessons he taught.

Jack is mourned and celebrated by his “sweetheart” Hazel, children, Keith (Kara), Kari, Sharla, Dayna (Chris), Tracey (Rob), nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jack was predeceased by his father, mother, three sisters, and four brothers.

A service of celebration will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Meadowood Manor, 577 St. Anne's Rd., Winnipeg, MB.

“Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, though they die, will live.’” - John 11:25
