ODIEL ALBERT DUSESSOY

(The Bear)

Born November 13, 1933

Passed May 27, 2023

Pre-deceased

His Wife Doreen Dusessoy (nee Morse) November 2006

His Sister Margert Guertin (nee Dusessoy) July 2019

Odiel passed away at the Victoria Hospital after a brief illness. He peacefully passed with Family members at his side. Comfort care was supplied by the amazing Dr. Brian Sharkey and the awesome nursing staff on the 5th floor of the Victoria. Also, homecare staff, and his favourite guy Robert.

Odiel is survived by his son Gerry Dusessoy (Lynda, Brodie) Coldstream BC, grandson Dustin Dusessoy (Winnipeg), granddaughter Danielle Dusessoy (Kyle Parmentier), great-granddaughter Halle, Lake Country BC. Daughter Joanne Dusessoy- Talbot (Rick Talbot) Calgary AB, granddaughters Victoria Talbot (Lewis Pope) Grand Prairie AB, Rachel Talbot (Clay Flack), great-granddaughter Layla (Calgary AB).

Odiel previously worked a number of years at Canada Cement La Farge located in Fort Whyte. Farming Sugar Beets and a variety of cereal and specialty crops was the majority of his adult life in the Fort Whyte and Oak Bluff areas. Dad and Mom retired totally in 1989 and had spent many a day travelling until Mom’s passing in 2006. Dad continued to be active by golfing and carpet lawn bowling right up to turning 88 years old. He was best known for his quiet demeanour and a man of few words, but when he spoke…..you’d better listen. He was always proud to say…I can paddle my own canoe!

The family wishes to thank all of Dad’s friends and relatives who kept in touch with him over the years. He really did appreciate all the people who took the time for visits and conversation.

At Dad’s request there will be no formal ceremony. Flowers are gratefully declined and any donations can be made to a place of one’s choosing.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Odiel’s passing. He was a client of ours on the Wednesday Meals on Wheels delivery. He came to be one of our favourite clients. A quiet man, as you say, but he always came to the door with a smile on his face and a thank you for the meal. Over time as we got to know each other, we would have a little chat and he seemed to enjoy that we had time to stop and visit. Sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Dianne Rogers (Friend) on: Jun 16, 2023

  • Our deepest condolences from the Gerzanic family. Auntie Doreen and Uncle Diel held a special part in our family. When they were first together they lived on our property on Clarence Ave. (where Motor Coach is) until they found their own place. Diel and Mike both worked at Canada Cement. They is a lot of great memories growing up together with the kids. Sleepovers, snowmobiling, Belgium Bowling parties. Uncle Diel was Rose Marie’s godfather. He would come to the house at Christmas dressed like Santa Claus. Last memorable one was Mike’s last Christmas. He then stepped in for Mike to walk Rose down the aisle to marry Elmer in 1979.. A very treasured memory for both of us. Uncle Diel even though we didn’t see each other often you always held a special place in Ninny and my hearts. Now you are reunited with the love of your life, family and great friends. The parties reignite and eternal life lives on. Joanne and Gerry we think of you and your families at this time and know our hearts and thoughts are with you. Memories forever Rosie, Ninny and Dar and their families. - Posted by: Rose Tice (Family ) on: Jun 05, 2023

  • Hey Gerry, so sad to here about ur dad. After talking about our aging parent at the races, things happen. Always hard losing a parent. Our condolences. Duane & Dawn - Posted by: Duane Jonsson (Friend) on: Jun 03, 2023

  • Diel was a close reliable friend who could be counted on to help when ever needed. I got my straw from his fields in the Ft. Whyte area. They yielded more grain & straw than the Oak Bluff area & I could fill my loft in 2 days baling. Thanks, Diel, for always being there when I needed help or advice. You will be missed, more than you'll ever know. From your best friend, Bobby DeMeyer - Posted by: Bobby DeMeyer (Diel was a reliable, close friend, who helped me a lot when I took over my Dad's Dairy busines in 19) on: Jun 03, 2023
