It is with great sadness that the family of Maria de Lourdes Belik announce her sudden passing on May 26, 2023 at the age of 72.
She leaves behind her beloved children, Eduardo (Ashley) Belik and Vivian (Ravi) Belik; and adored granddaughter Gia Belik. Survived by her sisters, Maria Helena (Ronaldo) Almeida and Maria Teresa (Eugenio) Sansiviero; her nephews and nieces, Marcelo Almeida, Katia de Almeida Sartori, Karina Almeida, Paulo Sansiviero, and Luis Fernando Sansiviero; and numerous great-nephews and nieces. Cherished godmother of Marcelo Fonseca. Predeceased by her parents, Horacio Lourenço dos Santos and Helena Branco dos Santos.
Maria moved from Brazil to North America in 1976, first to the United States and then Canada where she raised a family and worked in library sciences in Winnipeg. She loved books, music and films and amassed a huge reading collection, sometimes even purchasing the same book twice. She played the piano, enjoyed knitting and loved animals. Her laughter and smile will forever be remembered.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road.

Maria was a quiet, thoughtful, charming woman. She was a member of the Shaarey Tzedek synagogue and would go Shabbat mornings to the synagogue. When Covid struck, Maria would watch via Youtube, always wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom, in the comments section. Zichrona Livrakh a. Lourdes was very giving and so appreciative of of any gifts or time given to her. Her health battles were constant and she braved them with as much stoicism as was humanly possible.
