It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather. Ian passed away in the early hours of January 28, 2023 at the Golden Door Personal Care Home at the age of 91.
Left to cherish his memory is wife Eleanor of 63 years; daughter Heather (Wayne Scott); sons, Scott and Brad; and grandson Mitchell; cousins, Patrick, Joy and Charlotte.
Ian was predeceased by his parents, Archibald and Charlotte (Stoneman) and brother-in-law Loren Weidman.
Ian was born in Regina, SK and grew up on Queenston Street in River Heights. After his marriage in 1959, he moved to Fort Garry and resided there until his passing. Ian was active in his community - coaching hockey and playing in the Fort Garry Old-Timers Leagues and volunteering when needed.
At a very young age, Ian excelled in sports: squash, baseball, hockey and golf. He was able to golf well into his 80s and was proud of a 2 handicap.
Ian had a long and successful career in marketing and sales in the Temro Division of the Budd Company Canada (USA). In 1980, he was awarded Manager of the Year. His business took him across Canada and the Unitied States. He was able to see and golf at some great courses.
Ian was an active member of Broadway First Baptist Church, St. Andrew's Society of Winnipeg, North West Commercial Travellers Association Canada, A.I.A. Canada, Southwood and Wildewood Golf Courses (Club Champion at Wildewood).
In retirement, Ian enjoyed his family, home and yard, his golf, and his Wednesday morning coffee hour with friends and old school chums at the Salisbury House. This was a highlight for all.
