DAWN BYRON

Born April 3, 1951 -

Died June 12, 2023

A Bright star ascended into Heaven on June 12, 2023, when Dawn left this earth on her final voyage. She succumbed to the ravages of Systemic Scleroderma after a 22-year war. She won many battles over those years, against many obstacles, but she finally lost the war.

Dawn loved life with a passion, entertaining, preparing exquisite meals, gardening, reading novels voraciously, travelling, card making (many still have her Christmas cards), beautiful clothes, home decorating, Lundar Farm and Valhalla at Patricia Beach.

Dawn loved all animals, especially cats, dogs and horses. But she especially, loved those she left behind, husband Wayne, daughter Lori (Ken), brother Chris, stepfather Fabian Mullins. She was overjoyed at the arrival of granddaughter Lily Dawn and grandson Lucas Byron. She loved them unconditionally and had hoped that she could see them grow up. It was her dying hope that by surviving her, she would have instilled in them her love of life, her optimism and positivity, compassion, honesty and integrity. Thinking that left her in a good place.

She was predeceased by her father Joe Simcoe, her mother Bernice Mullins, sister-in-law Joan Lyons and her best friend Lori Gillespie.

Dawn’s career in Winnipeg was at the Health Sciences Centre as an administrative assistant in the Physician’s Business office, the Medical Staff office and the Liver Disease Unit. Her volunteerism involved, First Lutheran Church Women, Neighborhood Watch, Manitoba Riding for the Disabled and British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to those entities or a charity of your choice in memory of Dawn.

Dawn was an inspiration to all as she chose to fight her disease with grace and grit, courage, positivity, perseverance and making the best of each day of her life.

  • Because we didn't live near each other, we didn't keep in touch as often as we should, but we always sent each other cards at Christmas! Her cards sent to me were far more beautiful than anything I bought and sent!!! She was so talented. Her home was a reflection of just how talented she was. She was most welcoming the few times I got to visit. We got the Royal treatment! Wayne and Dawn gave us the grand tour of Kelowna and enjoyed her home cooking. I am so very happy I called her on her birthday!!! I will always have a wonderful memory of my cousin Dawn. Rest in Peace you fought the fight. - Posted by: Joan A.Starr (Cousin) on: Jun 19, 2023
