FRANK GREEN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Green, devoted husband of 64 years to Jane, and loving father to children, David (Cynthia ), and Kimberly (Jonathan).

Frank was an adventurer, leaving his home and family in England at a young age to join the British Royal Navy, where he had many opportunities to travel the world, eventually settling in Canada. His first job in Canada was with Bell, and later with Canadian Marconi as a radio operator. For a time, he worked on the DEW line in a very isolated area near Baffin Island, building part of the National defence system. Afterwards, Frank enjoyed a long career as an Engineering Technician with Manitoba Hydro, where he made lifelong friends and colleagues. As an amateur HAM radio operator (VE4FA), Frank enjoyed communicating with others across the globe for many years. An avid sportsman, Frank enjoyed cycling, swimming, racquet sports and walking: he could be seen nearly daily walking around King's Park in Fort Richmond. Frank was a devoted and caring husband and father, and will be truly missed.

Special thanks to friends who kept in touch during his brief illness and especially to Susanne Newman whose help and support was invaluable to our family.

A private service was held and in lieu of flowers, friends and family wishing to honour Frank, may donate to CancerCare Manitoba.

  • I am so very shocked to read of Frank's death. I have called him every few months to inquire after Jane, but I had no idea that he was not well. He was a wonderful man and was so kind and caring for Jane. Now I am hoping I can learn about Jane. Our families had so many good times together when the kids were young. Heartfelt sympathy to all. - Posted by: Carol Perry (Friend) on: Jun 26, 2023

  • For my Uncle Frank, I have so many memories Of the times of my dear Dad spoke of you and times you both spent together, And even though you're no longer here, I'll cherish them forever. I miss your laughter so much and the mischief in your smile. When I feel the sadness welling up I'll remember it a while. For though you are no longer here, You'll never be truly gone. So long as I have these memories, Your spirit will carry on. So until I see your smile again, I'll hold you in my heart and mind also knowing your in safe hands with your brother the man I call my Dad. A shining example, my uncle Of the best of humankind. I’m so happy in the thought that I kept in contact with you via email and you enjoying the photos of the family and the conversations that we had. Lots of love Uncle Frank from your dear niece Janie xxxx - Posted by: Janie Green (Niece ) on: Jun 22, 2023

  • We are very saddened to hear of Frank’s passing. We have very fond memories of our families getting together. The 10 of us sharing a meal and then the Rockstar Kids performing for the adults. • Having lived in the same condo building for 38 years I saw and spoke to Frank frequently. Frank was always interested in the running of the building as was I. We had many constructive conversations over the years. He always remembered my name and his last parting words would be to say hello to your husband for me. A quiet gentleman and I will miss him. • I met Frank when we lived in the same complex in Fort Richmond and discovered I had worked with his son David many years before at Safeway. I always enjoyed our little chats in the pool for a daily swim. Frank was a gentle, kind man and I offer my condolences to his family. - Posted by: Gail Hall (Friend ) on: Jun 17, 2023
