JEANNETTE H. SMYTH
We are sad to announce the passing of Jeannette H. Smyth on June 10, 2023.
Jeanne was born December 5, 1927, and spent most of a long and inspiring life in her favourite place, the city of Winnipeg. There she met Sidney (Sid), and they were married in August of 1947.
A trailblazer for professional women, she loved her jobs very much. She worked at the Wheat Board, and later for Cargill, until her retirement in 1984.
Always an adventurous spirit and avid traveller, she managed to see much of the world with family and with dear friends, of which she had many.
Jeanne was predeceased by parents, Laura and Vincent, siblings, Edwin, Charles and Marilyn Harden, husband Sid, and daughter Laura.
She leaves to mourn beloved grandchildren, Adam Groening (Carley), Dr. Emily McDonald, Katy McDonald (Paul), Elizabeth and Louisa Smyth, and great-grandchildren, Bianca, Zoe, Ben, and Ella, Christopher, Michael. Also, Ed's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family thanks all who helped care for our Nanny these past few years. We are very grateful to you.
A small service will be held at a future date, when we will bring her home to Winnipeg and to her Sid.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour her memory may contribute to The Laura Smyth Groening Scholarship for Indigenous Students online at Concordia University, or by contacting Concordia University Advancement by phone at 514-848-2424, ext. 3884 or email at giving@concordia.ca
Safe home, Nan.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

I would like to offer condolences to all the family. Jeannette spoke of all of you often when we would meet. I first met your Nan through the Business and Professional Women's (BPW) org. and loved her instantly. She was always working on a committee or project, and great fun to work with. Later years we were sure to have a lunch or brunch or dinner at least once a year to catch up and share memories. Hoping all of you take comfort in your memories of her. - Posted by: Susan Slater (Friend; BPW member) on: Jun 18, 2023
