PATRICIA DARLINGTON

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Susan Darlington on June 8, 2023.
She will be missed by her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her son Alex. She was born in Winnipeg on December 25, 1949, the only child of Peter and Olga Simister. She lived her whole life in Winnipeg. Following her graduation from Glenlawn Collegiate in 1967, she worked in the business community until her retirement from the University of Manitoba Library Administration.
Her innate musical ability was apparent at an early age. Throughout her life, she was an active participant in church choirs and sang as a soloist at many weddings. She had a talent for knitting and crafted many beautiful items, most of which were gifted or donated to others. Most notably among these were her prayer shawls. This was a true labour of love and as long as she was able to, she was always making a prayer shawl for someone.
She had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed many summers in the beautiful cottage country of northern Ontario - at her parents' Vermilion Bay cottage and then when she and Joe married, at Longbow Lake. She enjoyed outdoor activities such as swimming, snorkeling and canoeing -- and just soaking up the summer sun. She and Joe enjoyed their travels throughout the U.S., Cuba, Portugal and a memorable Alaskan cruise. She loved to cook and hosted many dinners for family and friends.
In 1998, Pat and Joe made the decision to join the Anglican community of St. Mary Magdalene. She maintained her strong commitment for the rest of her life and found much support and sustenance from her church family.
Pat is survived by her husband Joe, his children, Laura, Lynne, Janet and David, her cousin Karen Ariel, her dog Ben, and many friends. Though she is no longer with us in body, her light still shines within each of us, in the memories we hold and cherish.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St. Vital Road, Winnipeg.

There are stars up above,
so far away we only see their light
long, long after the star itself is gone.
And so it is with people that we loved --
their memories keep shining ever brightly
though their time with us is done.
But the stars that light up the darkest night,
these are the lights that guide us.
As we live our days, these are the ways we remember.
