Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALMA FLORENCE HAWES
With sadness we announce that Alma passed away at the age of 103.
Alma was born to Lucy and Arthur Oakley who immigrated to Canada from England and settled on a "soldier’s settlement farm" in Saskatchewan near the town of Mikado. Alma loved to tell many stories of growing up on the farm (pre-teen years), then in Mikado (teenage years) with her three younger brothers.
On May 14, 1942 she became a war time bride when she married the love of her life, Russell. They raised three boys in Winnipeg before building their dream home in Dugald, Manitoba. They made many friends and were very active in the Dugald community.
During her prime years she enjoyed gardening, preserving vegetables/fruits, making jams, baking, and working in Eaton’s fabric department. Sunday suppers were always special with the three sons and their families; Alma loved her grandchildren and she would often have them for overnighters.
Over the years Mom took many trips with friends to England, Europe, Australia, Hawaii, and Florida.
Alma was predeceased by her husband Russell in 1987, their infant son Glen in 1951, and her brothers, Charlie and Bill.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ross (Dorothy), Arthur (Ursula), Dean (Darlene), her brother Ken (Valerie), her seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Our family sincerely thanks all the personnel of Concordia Place for their exceptional and compassionate care over the past 10 plus years. Alma was always treated with respect, kept active with other residents (exercises, painting, video presentations, live music, etc.), outings to restaurants, birthday parties, church services, and other special occasion get-togethers.
Cremation has taken place and interment will occur at Glen Eden Cemetery.

Sorry for the loss of your mother. I remember one time when went with Darlene and Dean to their parents house in Dugald and I thought they were the richest family I’ve ever known. That was also the first time I had Yorkshire pudding, and it was yummy. Once again sorry for you loss.
