JAMES (JIM) CHARLES LAYCOCK

 

March 12, 1934 – June 27, 2023


Jim was born in Rorketon, Manitoba on March 12, 1934, and passed away in Calgary, Alberta on June 27, 2023, at the age of 89.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emily (nee Zaplitny), and his four sons, Robert (Holly), Robin (Sarah), Ron (Heather), and Rick (Jen), as well as 11 grandchildren, Emily, Abby, Bekki (Sara), Adam (Emily), Sophie, Jenni, Jason (Emily), Anna (Michael), Haley, Charlie and Ava. Jim had eight great-grandchildren, Thea, Avni, Sammy, Elena, Rory, Ben, Lou and Calvin. He is also survived by sister Eileen McIntyre, and brother Roy Laycock. He was predeceased by his parents, Olga and George Laycock, his sister Doris and brother Raymond.

Jim spent his childhood in Rorketon, Manitoba where he was very involved in many sports. He returned there every summer after moving to Calgary in 1956. Manitoba was home to Jim. He always enjoyed returning, spending time at the lake, and getting together with friends and family.

Upon moving to Calgary Jim and Emily raised their family in their Glenbrook home, residing there until his death. Jim worked at GSL Chev City for 43 years until his retirement.

Jim loved hockey and baseball, enjoyed playing himself, and later watching his sons compete. He played hockey for several years with the Calgary Orphans Senior Hockey Team, with the Calgary Old Vikings and continued to get together with his teammates even when they were no longer active.
