Offer Condolences or MemorySGT. MICHAEL GERALD FERGUSON (RET)
With much sadness we announce the passing of Michael who was born in Carberry, Manitoba on September 21, 1962, and died on April 26, 2023, in Vernon, BC after a valiant fight against cancer for two and a half years.
Mike graduated from Brandon University and in 1983 he was selected as a summer student with the RCMP in Churchill, MB. In 1985, Mike joined the Thunder Bay Police Force where he remained until 1990 when he was accepted into the RCMP as a regular member. In August 1990 Mike married his wife Dayna (Wright). After training, they started their life together in Chetwynd, BC. While there, they welcomed son Eric and daughter Robyn into the family. Their next transfer took them to Carmacks, Yukon, where son Ian was welcomed. RCMP transfers then took the family to Mayo, YK; St. Paul and Devon, Alberta; Shaunavon, Estevan and Regina, SK where new friends were found, and Mike’s work ethics were appreciated by all. Mike retired from the RCMP in April 2020 and after a diagnosis of terminal cancer, moved to Vernon, BC in 2021. He underwent treatment in a prostate cancer research program with the understanding that his participation may help other people in the future. Mike’s fight concluded on April 26, 2023.
Michael is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dayna, his children, Eric, Robyn and Ian, his parents, Betty and Jerry Ferguson of Ste. Anne, MB; his siblings, Robert (Lori) of Winnipeg and Sandi (Pat) Carr of Grand Forks, ND; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial was held in Vernon, BC.
If you are able, consider giving the gift of life to others in Mike’s honour. Become a blood donor and donate as often as you are able or donate to the Canadian Cancer Society. Most importantly, make an appointment for early cancer screening.

I worked with Mike about 15 years ago when he was in Shaunavon and Estevan. I am shocked and extremely saddened by his death. He was a decent and good man. My most sincere condolences to Mike's family. - Posted by: Alan Molander (Coworker/Friend) on: Sep 10, 2023

I am simply shocked and overwhelmed at the passing of Michael. Mike and I were neighbours throughout highschool and I followed his dream of becoming an RCMP Officer with him. We spent alot of time together being friends, walking to and from school, enjoying the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair together where I was showing my horse, and watching Cheers. He was my dear friend and I adored him. We lost touch after Brandon University graduation but kept up with friends and family. His passion for the RCMP rubbed off on me as I found myself in the position of Magistrate for the Province of Manitoba. These were my best years and I wish so bad I could have shared them with Michael. It is with great sorrow that I reach out to his family, Betty and Jerry, Rob, Sandy and his wife Dayna and children. I will never forget Michael as he was one of my dearest friends, even after all these years. God speed Michael and I love you. Rest in peace, you are my hero.
