ROBERT (BOB) G. JOHNSTON

Peacefully after a brief illness Bob finished living on June 21, 2023.
He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy; sons, Steven (Ann) and Eric (Corinne); and stepchildren, Patty Eggleston (Brian) and Peter Thompson (Andrea); 16 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, as well as sister Ann Lambkin and brother Wayne. He was predeceased by his mother Rita and father William Johnston.
During his working years Bob had several jobs, Otis Elevator, the weather office, Allis-Chalmers, Avenue Electric, and Camco (later Mabe). He was a skilled repairman who could fix almost anything. After his retirement he became very involved with his yard and garden, growing everything he could, except for roses.
Bob was a dedicated volunteer with a compassion for children. He worked with the Learning Centre of Winnipeg, and served on the board of Knowles Centre where he was president from 1988 to 1990.
He was a kind man, with a quick wit and a dry sense of humour. He was generous with his time and was always trying to help out his friends and acquaintances when he could see a need. He loved our children and grandchildren with his whole heart. Christmases, birthdays, and just plain hanging out with the kids gave him a great deal of joy.
Together Bob and Kathy were members of the Rockwood ANAF unit 303 for 30 years. Many Friday and Saturday evenings were spent there dancing away the night. My how this man loved to dance! He was always first up on the dance floor when the music started. During many years spending weekends at Bigstone Bay he also held up his reputation by dancing on the decks.
Our many thanks go out to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, including Dr. Houston, Dawn, Lisa, and Sheri. They treated us with care and compassion, and even laughed at our dumb jokes.
A casual come and go Celebration of Life will be held at the Rockwood, 301 Wilton Ave., July 23, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
