BRUCE GRANT MACMILLAN

After a brief illness, Bruce Grant MacMillan of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 17, 2023.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, in-laws, his brother David, and his brother-in-law Ron. He is survived by his wife Heather (Marshall); his daughters, Paula (Kirk) and Kirsty (Chris); his sisters-in-law, Lorna Nelson and Deanne MacMillan, and his nieces and nephews (Amelia, Patti, Grant, Keith, Geoff, Tannis, Heather, Sean, John and Andrew and their spouses and children).

Bruce lived his whole life in Winnipeg, growing up in the West End on Strathcona Street attending Isaac Brock School and Tec Voc High School. In 1965, he says he "won the lottery" when he married his wife Heather of "649" Goulding Street. Bruce followed in his beloved father-in-law's footsteps, working at Moore Business Forms for over 40 years. In his private life, Bruce was a proud member of the St. James Assiniboia Kinsmen Club. He and Heather enjoyed many hours of volunteer work (and great parties!) in their community most notably building a children's park in his neighbourhood and assisting in many Skate-a-thons. In his later life, Bruce was a member of Prairie Spirit United Church (SCUC) where he assisted his wife in her many volunteer activities.

During Bruce's youth, he spent many summers at the Johnson Tourist Camp at Lake-of-Two-Mountains in Ontario, learning valuable lifelong skills from his grandfather and fun loving-uncles. This love of cottage life transitioned to a cottage at Falcon Lake where many family summers have been and are still being enjoyed to this day.

Although Bruce faced many health-related challenges in his later life, nothing brought him more joy than - THE DOGS (Blizzard, Katsa, Askum, Arwen and Hudson).

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the incredibly kind and caring staff at the Grace Hospital most notably nurses Ashley, Jasmine, Abhilash and Dr. H. Hildebrand.

Honourary pallbearers will be Kirk Stubner, Chris Kozie, Grant MacMillan, Keith MacMillan, John Nelson and Andrew Nelson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the CNIB Guide Dogs or Canadian Diabetes Association.

  • So so sad to hear of Mr. Mac’s passing. We spent many weekends at the lake with this family who made us feel like their own. This was a comfort to Rick and I as our families were on the east coast. Mr. Mac was a sweet, sweet man with such a wonderful sense of humour. Everyone felt special in his presence. He spent as much time at the lake as he could, as it was there that he felt most comfortable. Mr. And Mrs. Mac were wonderful role models for their girls and their spouses and friends. Know that we are with you as you get accustomed to life without him physically by your side. He will be in your hearts and will shine through as always in the wonderful people you have become with his influence. Love always to Mrs. Mac, Paula, Kirsty, Kirk, and Chris. - Posted by: Susan, Richard, and Noah Spragg (Family friends) on: Jul 30, 2023

  • My Mom Paulina and Heather have been best friends since they were kids and Bruce and Heather my Honorary Uncle and Aunt. I have many fond memories of Uncle Bruce and Auntie Heather at Falcon Lake and West Hawk Lake as a kid; and at Cowichan Lake years later where Uncle Bruce earned the title "Coach". Around a campfire on the beach, me, my brother Jeff and a good buddy of mine proceeded to demonstrate to Bruce how to drink rum and coke. Let's just say wisdom prevailed over youth. You will be very much missed, Coach. - Posted by: Michael Mark (Nephew from another mother) on: Jul 24, 2023
