LILLIAN MARY SHARMAN

(nee MAITLAND)

1925 - 2023

Gentle, kind, affectionate, creative, honest, considerate – these are just some of the words Lil’s family would use to describe her.

She will be lovingly remembered and cherished by daughters Beverly (Richard) and Donna (John), four beloved grandchildren, Jessica (Thomas), Jamie, Ryan (Shelley) and Cara, and two precious great-grandchildren, Adelaide and Holden.

She was predeceased by her lifelong partner, Don, in March 2006, sisters Dolly James and Margaret Thomson, step-brother Tom Phizacklea, brothers-in-law Frank Thomson, Tom James and Ted Sharman.

Lillian was born in the Oak River district, the second daughter of Jane and John Maitland. She received her education in Oak River and business college in Winnipeg. She was later employed at the University of Manitoba for a number of years.
Dad and Mom met in high school and were married on June 5, 1948. The next 14 years were spent in centres such as Killarney, Alexander, Rivers and Brandon, where they made special friends.

Mom enjoyed many hobbies, excelling in needlepoint, baking and gardening. Her sports interests included baseball and curling. She loved to laugh and was a big tease. She enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

Mom was a loving, caring and supportive mother who will always be remembered for her humour, pleasant personality and concern for others. Our lives have been enriched by having her as our mother, and we will carry her love with us always.

She will now be joining her beloved Don.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to doctors and staff of Markham Stouffville Hospital and to the staff at Stouffville Creek Retirement where she resided for eleven years.

As per Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place with interment in The Lasting Tribute Chapel, Chapel Lawn, in Winnipeg. A private family celebration of life will take place in the near future.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

  • My thoughts and prayers go out to Bev and Donna and their families during this time of grieving. I will always remember our parents playing cards until the early morning hours either in Brandon or Rivers. I remember a lot of laughter while the were playing cards. Mrs. Sharman always had cookies for us kids or a snack before we were put to bed until it was time to go home. God Bless all of you.
