KAROL PALICKA
It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our lovely dad Karol Palicka passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023 from a cardiac arrest.
Left to cherish memories are his daughters, Jarmila Ratz (Brian) and Alexandra Miller (Sean); grandchildren, Kenzie and Gavin Miller. He will also be remembered by his brother Vrato (Maruska) and their three children and other family in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and in the USA by his brother-in-law Milan (Marie) and his family. He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Jarmila Palicka.
Karol was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia in 1942 and came to Canada in 1968 with his bride and six month old child. Together they worked hard to provide a wonderful life for their daughters, Jackie and Alex.
Early after arriving to Winnipeg, Dad, an electrician, found work at Federal Pioneer and worked there for over 30 years.
It was important to dad that family trips or camping vacations were taken yearly, but he also valued time spent around the dinner table. One of Dad's enjoyments was Mom's cooking and baking - when given a choice he preferred Mom’s cooking over going to a restaurant. All his life he loved to “putsky” and could often be found fixing something in his workshop for either mom or someone in the community. Dad was willing to help out whenever he was asked. In his younger years, dad enjoyed making wine, beer, and spirits. Often, we saw Dad reading - he was a lifelong avid learner. In recent years he found a new world of information and connection on the computer. He was happy to be a board member of the Czechoslovakian Benevolent Association and enjoyed many evenings there chatting or for a dinner and a movie.
We would like to say thank you to the staff at Victoria General Hospital for the excellent care our Dad received.

An in-person/virtual Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
