JANE GREEN

June 4, 1934 – July 29, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Green, just seven weeks after the loss of her husband of 64 years, Frank. Jane will be dearly missed by her children, David (Cynthia) and Kimberly (Jonathan).

Jane (known as Jean to family) was born in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, just six minutes before her identical twin, Joyce, who passed in 2015. At the age of 22, Jane immigrated to Montreal, Canada with her three girlfriends and their vision of the “Wild West” that was cultivated by “Spaghetti Western” films they had seen in the cinema. Life was not quite as exciting as they had imagined, and Mom missed Northern Ireland and her family there dearly, referring to it as “home” for the rest of her life.

Fortunately, in 1958, Jane met Frank in Montreal when each of their sisters (who happened to be working together in England) discovered that they both had siblings in Canada and arranged for them to meet. Frank was in Montreal only for a weekend but managed somehow to convince her to move to Winnipeg to be with him after a very short courtship! Once in Winnipeg, Jane worked for Trans-Canada Airlines (now Air Canada) and later for the University of Manitoba. Jane met life-long girlfriends both at work and in their Fort Richmond neighbourhood; she loved to chat and was gregarious with a wonderful sense of humour. She loved to sing and hum and was much comforted by music in her final days.

A private service was held and in lieu of flowers, friends and family wishing to honour Jane, may donate to The Canadian Cancer Society.
